Guest guest
Hi Everyone, (sorry this ended up being a bit long!!) I have a question about a 29 year old female with severe dysmenorrhea. I believe she is from a family of highly sycotic women. She had excrutiatingly painful menses. Can be one week prior to menses. Worst the day before, day of and second day of flow. Flow is regular but very light. She can't go to work monthly. Can't barely move. Was prescribed anti-inflammatory's by her MD at 13 years old when her menses began, with her dysmenorrhea. During menses she can take up to 4-8 of her anti-inflam meds. Before seeing me she was put on the birth control pill as a last resort by her MD, but still had the pain every month. PMS: severe hot/cold flushes; hot hot hot at night, but generally a colder person. Lower back pain; painful cramping; pain down her legs; very strong active female who goes to the gym daily, but the PMS week can barely walk up the stairs, weak and winded. Family history: Mother had severe menstrual cramping and later in life developed breast cancer. In addition mother has 3 sisters all, so all four had dysmenorrhea in younger years, and later breast cancer, (all survivors) plus one cousin who used to live with them, breast cancer (survivor). Patient has one older sister who had dysmenorrhea although not as severe, and improved after children. Treatments: Faithful to BTG's Visit 1: Patient just stopped the BCP when she came in, so i started with unda 10, 48, 21 D1= hypophysinum D8=folliulinum D15=ovarinum D21=luteinum First menses off the pill no cramps, thought it was a miracle. Visit 2: Unda 10, 21, 16 homeopathic cycling Worst dysmenorrhea with this menses, one of the worst ever. Even with anti-inflammatories, no relief. Worst! Visit 3: Unda 10, 21, 48 Still painful menses, not much change but not as bad as last time Visit 4: Unda 1, 48, 21 Lachesis 30k at flow, as needed for hot flushes Gammadyne Mg, and up to 4/day with cramping in addition to the homeopathic cycling, added day 15-onset lutinum monday/wed/friday Silicea 4ch 3 pellets/day No change really with dysmenorrhea and hot flushes, still VERY debilitating pain, slightly less at times; alot of time off work with menses So mentally there have changes, but nothing with menses Still painful menses, but the second day of flow is less painful, manageable. Hot flushes pretty bad This visit, she said: She thinks all the time, internalizes all her stress, goes to the gym 2x/day because of all her thinking, way to calm herself, or an outlet. so she said she " can't let go " ; very sensitive. But a good shift mentally, she's a bit more aggressive with her stresses and not so mopey and passive. Good sign as she was easily bullied by family/friends. Very sensitive i prescribed 6, 48, 219 Staphasagria 30k Not sure what is going on here, because she is not improving at all with the hormone numbers, i think she might be even too depleted of all her Yin, because she has alot of Yin deficient symptomes, to even respond drainage. Not sure where to go from here, i'm adding in a Golden flower remedy, to nourish yin, but any suggestions or thoughts of the case would really be helpful. I thought in addition to yin deficient that progesterone was severely diminished. She is a bit anxious to have some relief, and i've explained that this is many generations of problems, so she's a bit more at ease with the 30 year issues she's had. But possibly with her thinking and mentally was I in the wrong system? her energy and sleep and appetite and moods did improve. Sleep was resless before, quite good now. But she internalizes ALOT. Any help would be great, any suggestions, or additions! Thank you so much in advance. Guest guest
What comes to mind is Endometriosis. In the research, these females have a decreased immunity because of the pain/depression, increased pro-inflammatory state due to the excess estrogen and constant " on guard " activity of the immune system, they are more susceptible to cancer because of the excess estrogen (breast!) and are more susceptible to autoimmune disorders. Endometriosis is also highly hereditary. I would really focus on bringing that estrogen down by working on the adrenals. When she is stressed, progesterone rushes down the pathway to support cortisol instead of the other way and balancing estrogen...which gives you a relative estrogen dominance. Then take into account any other estrogen excess that she may have (overweight, birth control, non-organic meat...etc) and now she's way out of balance. Some of the endometriosis patients I have worked with do well on overt botanicals and nutraceuticals for awhile until you can get everything under control. Heavy adrenal support for her peace of mind and to restore progesterone. Consider Vitex(chaste tree) or other progestrone encouraging herbs. Turska's formula works GREAT for pain. Liver support to clear the extra estrogen. Indole-3-carbonol or DIM to push estrogen down the healthier of the two breakdown pathways. Ground flax seeds to increase SHBG I hope this helps! ,ND NCNM Women's Health Resident Portland --- " Dr. Neetu Dhiman, ND " <drdhiman@...> wrote: > Hi Everyone, (sorry this ended up being a bit > long!!) > > I have a question about a 29 year old female with > severe dysmenorrhea. Guest guest
Hi Neetu, I think she should also read the book, "Women's Bodies, women's wisdom" by Northrup. It helps women look at the connection of emotions to female disorders. I am not sure if it has a large dysmenorrhea section or not. It is definitely worth looking at. Guest guest
Hi Neetu, This is what I offer my patients with dysmenorrhea, and it has always worked beautifully EVERY single time so far in my practice: 1) UNDAs: #245 is a MUST. And, I keep them on 245 until we get results. Other UNDAs? UNDA 243, 1, 20 would be great also. 2) Gemmos to help the liver: Rosemarinus, Juniperous, Pinus, etc. 3) Castor oil pack. 4) Diet: Sugar avoidance (which by itself can give you amazing results). This protocol typically takes a few to several months for complete cure, but the patient will slowly improve even during the first month on being on this protocol.
