Guest guest
I'm quite new at natural perfumery (definitely a beginning student) and yesterday I received a small vial of Tolu Balsam, among other delights which I had ordered, from a merchant. Whatever is in that vial does not have a smell. Nothing. I opened it, couldn't smell anything, then blobbed a little of it onto a perfume blotter, thinking that perhaps it would bloom into something that I could smell. Nope, nothing. I considered putting a little bit on my skin, but was a little reluctant to put that on my skin undiluted since I haven't yet checked out its potential toxicity. So I took the vial and the blotter and ran down to see my downstairs neighbor, who is also learning natural perfumery, and she couldn't smell anything either. I have a very sensitive nose, and my neighbor even more so; but we couldn't smell a thing in that bottle. Everything else that I purchased was just fine. Is it characteristic of Tolu Balsam to have no fragrance or just a faint fragrance? I really could not smell anything at all, and am puzzled. Can anyone advise?
