Guest guest
Hi If you agree that the main problem with eczema is that the body is using the skin as an emmunctory because one or more of the others are blocked, and the prednisone suppressed the elimination through the skin, and, since the emunctories are still not open, now that the prednisone is removed, the skin is flaring up like crazy. I don’t think the COPs are enough alone. Are you doing any UNDA? I know others seem to use liver and GI remedies for eczema, but I have had better success with kidney numbers (2, 20, 258) and eczema. (I then use herbs for liver (tincture in kids), and diet for the GI. Do you have any EFAs? Kids will sometimes take the orange or peach Nordic Naturals Cod Liver oil. This combo seems to work well and quickly. But not overnight. You will just have to explain to the patient (directly) and the parents, that real healing takes time. A 6 year old is old enough to understand this. The sulphur may also be causing an aggravation. That is a very high dose, and repeated frequently. If it is a similimum, I don’t think you need to repeat it, and if it isn’t it will just aggravate. If you think the sulfur is causing the aggravation, you can probably antidote it by having her sniff some eucalyptus or Vicks ointment. This may very quickly stop the flair up. Have you tried oatmeal baths? (1 cup ground oatmeal in a nylon stocking, tied, and thrown in the bath as the water is running). Homeopathic urtica comes to mind as one remedy for acute itching, but there are others to consider as well. If you find the right one, that will also work quickly. Loreen Dawson, BSc, ND Sechelt, BC Family Medicine Eczema Just treating a 6 y/o with eczema about 10 days ago. She was having an acute flare-up and was put on predisone for 6 days. Her eczema came back with a vengence after she stopped the Prednisone. It's all over her body. She started burping a lot after the predisone. Her sleep is restless cos of the itching. She's on anti-histamine meds. I have her on the AI diet, Ribes-1/4 tsp tid, 270 ointment, sulfur 200K at bedtime. alos COP topically. Her mom said today that her itching has gotten worse. She had to be sent home early cos her ithing was so bad. Anyone have any ideas to calm the itching quickly? She's 6 and feeling miserable. Guest guest
I'm eager to hear what others say, but have you considered apple cider vinegar in the bath water which increases blood supply to skin and changes pH of skin. I personally used it once and great relief. I REALLY like suggestion of using clay. I think clay is a " wonder drug " . Guest guest
The other factor in summertime exacerbation of eczema is that the common locations for it (flexor surfaces - behind elbows, knees, thighs) are where sweat collects especially in the summer when kids are running around and sweating. That can exacerbate it, which is part of the reason why oatmeal works (drying) as well as clay, or powder. Allie NDSeaside, OR
