Guest guest
Hello, My name is Emma and I live in Somerset in the UK. I am brand new to this list but am, and always have been, a smell 'nut'. Since childhood I've blended flower waters, oils and now, as an adult make my own perfumes and beauty products (including soap, handcream and face cream). I don't do this professionally but I tinker. My latest is a patchouli beard wax for my dad, inspired by Chrissie Worwood.... Anyway, to get to my question...My sister came back from Marrakesh with some 'amber', a small waxy block that was a marbled dark butter colour. It smelled wonderful and I am pining for it. I am guessing it is some combination of synthetics and maybe natural essential oils. Any guesses? It has a sweet, vanilla fragrance with a light musk undertone and a deeper undertone of something faintly unpleasant... And another amber question. I am going to try making up Mandy Aftels' amber which suggests benzoin, vanilla and labdanum. The only benzoin I can find seems to be created using a solvent called something like DMG. What is this? Is it safe to use on my skin? I look forward to reading and learning more on this list! Emma
