I have an idea of how we might be able to do this: 1. anybody who is interested could let the rest of the group know by posting an affirmative response to the challenge. 2. next, all of those who wish to participate could post some research threads (i.e.: NP GROUP POST # 10496: Mark's wonderful post on Violet accords; NP FILES: VIOLET FLOWER ACCORD (Ayala's generous contribution). These could come from a host of sources, including internet links and, more importantly, BOOKS and scientifitc papers! 3. Then we set out on working on our individual creations with the understanding that the resulting formulas each of us come up with are to be shared in their entirety (materials used, source of materials, proportions and ratios used, notes, etc..). 4. At a prescribed date, we ship all of our violet creations (including formulas & notes) in a self-addressed and prepaid return padded envelope placed in a larger padded envelope addressed to one of the folks in the contest (this person would be the person also responsible for collecting all the names & addresses of the participants), who in turn, will evaluate our creations and vote on the one that most resembles the violet flower scent (this could be a point of difficulty, however, if the person has yet to smell a live Parma Violet flower!). thoughts on this sticking point???? 5. After evaluating the accords for his/herself, this person would carefully pack all the accords and send it to the next person on the list who is part of this 'violet accord collective.' She/he evaluates as the first person, packs up the stuff and sends it on to the next person on the list. This continues until all in the collective have sampled everyone else's accord. 6. The last person on the list would be responsible for sending back everyone's prepaid self addressed padded envelopes (their creations and formulas would already be in the same envelopes)! 7. We post our votes on the most compelling accord by using the polls section of our NP group-? Something like this would be a wonderful way for many of us to connect with one another, teach & learn from one another, and gain a useful product in the process. Of course, the success or failure of something like this depends a great deal on trust - and of the responsiblity and reliability of all in the contest to do their part and send the package along in a timely manner. If anyone likes this idea, reply. I'd be willing to get the ball rolling~ ~
