Yes, I know a colleague here in Austin that has had that same .

experience with the Linden blossom from Liberty Natural. That's NOT to

say that all their products are the same quality. Good Linden Blossom

is not only hard to find, but most often, you must question the quality

of what you are getting. The adulteration of this oil/absolute is

always an issue.

Linden Blossom Absolute question

Hi,

I have never used Linden Blossom abs., but I recently decided to buy

some. I ordered it from Liberty Natural. What arrived is a nearly

black, plasticy substance that cannot be poured or removed from its

bottle with a dropper. It adheres to glass and pulls out in long

strands. It is not soluble in ethyl alcohol, even at a dilution of

1%. At 1% it forms a dark, nearly opaque liquid with considerable

sediment. Finally, it smells more like tobacco absolute than a

delightful floral.

Has anybody had a similar experience with Linden? If not, how would

you describe the linden blossom absolute that you have used, and where

did you get it?

Linden blossom is dark, sticky, hard to dilute. Doesn't smell very floral

at all. Liberty may have made a mistake, however, and if I didn't know

better, I would think the orangey-staining dry scented stuff was Mitti

attar, which I had ordered, but well, I know saffron absolute. They made a

mistake, I called them, and they sent me the mitti.

I have a stash from Charabot I got years ago, and haven't used much.

Haven't checked on who has it recently.

Yes, Steve. I have the Linden from Liberty as well- and it is very similar to

White Lotus Aromatics' Linden Bl. Abs (no longer available from White Lotus,

however). Your description above would serve both of my samples.

I have found that the only way to really make good use of this sticky stuff is

to

gently heat up 5mls of the Linden, mix it constantly for a few minutes in 10ml

of very warm Jojoba oil, and, while still very warm, pour over a FINE screen

mesh attached to a glass funnel. You have to move the sludge around on the

mesh to get the Linden-drenched jojoba to filter through.

When done and when things cool off, you end up with a semi-transparent

green liquid, very green & tobacco in scent - but no longer sticky and stringy.

what it has done for a few of my blends is astonishing! it imparts a complex

but subtle and understated green to an accord.

You'll also end up with a mess! But lots of Isopropyl alcohol will do the clean-

up trick. that & Dawn soap! It is worth the fuss, though, IMO-

Hummm....seems so, from what I've been reading here, but the supplier is

good, and a friend. I'm meeting with her in a week or two and will ask her

about it.

I've had many LB's over the years (from different UK suppliers) and all have

fallen within the parameters of of the one I have now. Some more floral,

some with a darker green aroma. Its not something I've used in AT - I just

have it for me - so have never looked into it in any depth. My 'puter's been

having a off day (well, think its my screen) so not done much research

today, but supplier pages I have looked at all seem to have similar

descriptions to what I have.

I'm wondering if a way to *wash* (cant think of a better word just now! I

mean clean it up) the absolute has been found (but that wouldn't account for

the smell...humph)

I have some bits and bobs to send you next week, so will include a sample.
