I have never heard of commercial grade lavender. Where do you get it? Is

it less expensive?

**I've used commercial grade lavender EO in soap for test batches and it

works just fine. A smidge (and i mean a smidge as it tends to over power)

of Citronella EO with it is really nice too.

I'm trying to buy lavender for soapmaking. There are many choices. Could

someone tell me what art the differences between lavandin, lavender 40/42,

lavender, Bulgarian lavender, and high altitude lavender? Also, can

commercial

grade eo's be used in soapmaking? Thanks, Marcia

Marcia, are you asking what is the technical difference between all

these lavenders or just how do they smell differently?

Lavender refers to Lavendula angustifolia, while lavandin refers to

the hyrid Lavandula x intermedia. It is said that this one smells

more camphorous I think.

The 40/42 is Lavandula angustifolia, but the aroma chemicals in it

have been standardized. I forget the two specific chemicals they

standardize it for though. High altitude lavender is supposed to be

more aromatic (as are many herbs at high elevation). That's all I

know about it. I've never smelled the Bulgarian but have heard it is

divine!

Good Morning,

I am on a quest for a sweeter, more floral Lavender to use in my

products. I'm currently using a High Attitude Lavender (organic) and

feel it is too herbal for the scent I am looking for. Would some one

share with me what they have found to be the sweetest- most floral

scented Lavender EO?

Thanks in advance.

You might try a sample of the Lavender from Kashmir India that

whitelotusaromatics.com carries. It has a pretty floral note to my nose.

lav kash org is the code that you want as you scroll down on the site

above. It is in the grouping of lavenders.

Hope this helps.
