Hi Jeanette,

The Sheraton Downtown has a hospital rate of 59.00 and it is really nice. The beds are super comfy and the rooms are very clean. The # is 801-401-2000 ask for in house reservations.

We are arriving on the 19th, will you still be there? Oh, the hotel also has a starbucks!!!!!!!!!

Email me privately if you have any more questions with your # and I will call you. Hope the Phone # is right.

Good luck!

Hi Jeanette

The Shriner's in SLC sent me a list of hotel/motels in the downtown

area, plus the Mc House, and even an RV Park!

If by chance the Sheraton is full, another choice could be the Best

Western (801- 521-2930 or 1-800- 521-9997) The hospital rate is $45

a night, and they

give a free self serve breakfast.

Good Luck with your visit.

Thanks Jacki! Shriners sent me a list and map also, but I don't know

which of the places on the list are nice and clean.

Changing the subject here.......Has anyone had any experience with

their kids having alot of leg pain and coughing? Nick complains of

leg pain alot and even cries sometimes because of it, the coughing

only occurs in the middle of the night. Also, he says his back

itches alot. Anybody else have this going on? The first Dr.

(surgeon) I mentioned this to doesn't think any of it is connected.

Thanks for the help!

Sincerely,

Jeanette

Hello Everyone,It's Jeanette, mom to Nick, 4 yr old, infantile idio. scoliosis, approx 55 degree thor/35 degree lumb) hope everyone enjoyed the holidays! We are gearing up for our visit to Sacramento Shriners on the 13th where we'll be sitting in on a conference with our original surgeon and 4 or 5 others to get their opinion on Nick's case. We're heading home (8 hrs drive) immediately after to re-pack for our trip to SLC on the 17th, for an opinion from Dr. D'Astous regarding casting.I need to make hotel reservations very soon and I was wondering if anyone can recommend a nice place to stay that's close to the hospital. (Crista, I can't find the notes I had written when I spoke to you about this.) Thanks alot! Have a Happy New Year everybody!

Thanks for the info. We arrive on Sunday the 16th, his appt is

Monday in the morning and our return flight to CA is Tuesday.

Hopefully one of these days we will get to meet some of the great

people from this site!

I noticed Nicks curve when he was 2 mos. old, and when his ped. said

don't worry about it, I listened. Unfortunately it's progressed, We

were told by a cardiologist to deal with his PDA first. That's a

heart condition he was born with that seems to have resolved itself,

which is a common occurence. After that we started to get help with

the scoliosis. We went to Shriners for the first time in Sacramento

in Sept., back down for an MRI in Oct., then again for another

consult 2 wks later. It was at that point, when the surgeon just

kept insisting on growth rods, that we decided to go to Utah. We are

sitting in on a conference at Sac Shriners a few days before we leave

for Utah, so we'll see what happens there.

Since we are new to all of this, we had never heard of RVAD, or

really any of the terms used on this site, or at least understood

enough to check it with the surgeon. All I know is that my son has 2

curves, around 55 thoracic, around 35 lumbar and there seems to be

something going on with his neck as well. He seems otherwise very

healthy. His development is on track, he's active, intelligent, just

a regular 4 year old. He is VERY thin though, always has been. We

don't know what to make of that because my husband and I are not tall

and are built very solidly, muscular builds, etc. Our daughter is

shaped like us. Nick has long fingers, legs, toes, etc. I will be

asking SLC about their thoughts on Marfans. I just hate not

knowing. My father is tall and skinny, so maybe that's where it's

coming from.

I hope I answered your questions. Oh, we haven't braced or anything

yet.

Talk to you later,

Jeanette
