Guest guest
Hi All, Have been watching some of the post on MCS. I see that many of you have already found products that you can use. Was wondering if anyone with MCS was willing to share products they have found to be good. Like shampoo, conditioner, body soap, toothpaste, hairspray (if there is one) body lotions. I myself am very interested in this for my daughter and husband. And feel that it would be helpful for others. With the understanding that just because it works for one, it will not work for the other. But, if we could get an idea of what works, and some suggestions I think this would be VERY helpful. Kinda a starting point, for those of us just starting on this new road. It could narrow it down for many. I myself have gotten a handle on the cleaning products, and today was able to get help for laundry detergent. But, the others seem harder for myself, and probably other members here on this board that are needing help. Where else can they go and get it, but from all the wonderful people here, who have the experience with this. No where that I know of. Thank you, [] Re: A few questions from Iceland .... > Hi Mygla, with me it has been mostly a trail and error . Guest guest
I recommend thru my foundation: Safe Coat Shampoo (also as liquid soap, bubble bath and it removed spots from clothing with some brushing/rubbing) Uni-cure Hair Consitioner Clinque Fragrance Free PUMP only hair spray Aveeno Frag Free line Planet and Seventh Generation ONLY FRAGRANCE FREE products...nothing with essential oils Mineral Oil I personally can use Eucerin, but others can't. I have recommended some people to use olive oil as a skin coniditoner. Then again, some don't like the smell, others see the long term benefits, as it also acts as an anti-oxidant on the face. Than again you will have a so called mold expert who thinks he knows more about chemically injury safe products then myself....Cavaet Emptor.... Since everyone has been injured by certain chems, even those listed above will trigger some people. But no matter what, essential oils and natural botanicals still carry a risk on hidden chems. Guest guest
Hi Angel: Please don't be offended with my comments regarding your list, however we both have worked with thousands of MCSers and have observed their reactions so I thought I pass along with I've observed. >>Safe Coat Shampoo (also as liquid soap, bubble bath and it removed spots from clothing with some brushing/rubbing)>> I'm assuming Safe Coat is made by AFM. Many with MCS are unable to tolerate AFM building products nor their toiletries. I looked recently at the ingredients in their shampoo and was surprised with the number of chemicals. http://www.afmsafecoat.com/Techpdfs/Satin%20Touch%20data.pdf >>Uni-cure Hair Consitioner>> I'm not familiar with this. What are the ingredients please? " Clinque Fragrance Free PUMP only hair spray> I and many I know tolerate well Aloe Vera 80 Styling Spray, alcohol and fragrance free. " Aveeno Frag Free line " It is perfume free however unfortunately again many with true MCS cannot use their products because of the chemicals in it. It's not considered a safer toiletry. Checking ingredients in only their lotion I found: Active Ingredients: Dimethicone Inactive Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Distearyldimonium Chloride, Petrolatum, Isopropyl Palmitate, Cetyl Alcohol, Oat Flour (Avena Sativa), Benzyl Alcohol, Sodium Chloride Many with MCS cannot tolerate these chemicals. Planet and Seventh Generation ONLY FRAGRANCE FREE products...nothing with essential oils " Mineral Oil " I'm sorry Angel, most with MCS would never use mineral oil at all. It's petroleum based and can cause reactions plus not that healthy for the skin according to many. Certainly not a natural product. Guest guest
Mineral oil is for furniture polishing...guess I forgot to mention it. AFM I have found to be the most toelrated shampoo by MCS'ers. Unicure: Water, cettl alcohol, cetylpridinium chloride, methyl paraben, propyl paraben, egg white protein. There are those who are sensitive to synthetic alcohols and they would tend to be reactive to any type of alcohol in any product. now glycerin for some are a problem. I am HIGHLY allergic to petroleum based products and am able to tolerate these products. my best riend who is chemically injured can not tolerate anythign with glycerin in it and I recommend Steve Tvedents Enzyme Cleaner. It has 2 versions one with peppermint and one without. IT's a great all round cleaner byt those like her who are sensitive to glycerin can't use it. I have never had anyone I associate iwth feel safe with Magic Botanicals. Others I have seen post that it works for them. These are the products that most can tolerate and especially if used by those around them. Now, I personally can tolerte windex but would NEVER recommend it to anyone. Guest guest
Hi Angel. This is a fascinating discussion because your findings with MCSers and mine are quite the opposite. Most of those I know with MCS would not use the products you are recommending. I have mild MCS compared to many and I wouldn't use them either. Just shows how different we are in our perception and reaction of products. Yet many I know cannot and will not use essential oils and many do have reactions. I worked with one woman who couldn't tolerate EO's until about 2 years into her treatment. Now she adores them and is learning how to use them in many applications. http://www.organicconsumers.org/bodycare/toxic_cosmetics.cfm is just one site that has opinions about some of the chemicals we should avoid in our toiletries and why and many of the products you list contain some of these ingredients such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, the parabens, etc. Yes glycerin can be a problem but there are different types of glycerin, (just like natural and artificial white distilled vinegar) some synthetic and others natural. Just depends on which one we use. Some with MCS cannot tolerate any vinegar. The majority I've polled and feedback I've received about AFM products is that the MCSers do not tolerate them nor want to use them especially their toletries with the synthetic chemicals in them. They are not " no-VOC and off-gas longer than no-VOC products. I personally cannot tolerate any of their building products such as the paints, sealers and caulks plus I've found they are more expensive compared to other non-toxic products that are tolerated by many MCSers. I've tried their products and had to return them plus I've spoken with the technical representatives and often they will not disclose all ingredients claiming proprietary. One of Magic Botanicall's products was recently recalled by FDA due to contamination of bacteria and fungi. I don't use nor recommend them. Too many other products. Windex I don't use. It's too simple and inexpensive to make up our own safe window and glass cleaner. I'm not disputing your research and feedback from MCSer's only saying what I've seen from thousands are different from yours. We are trying to get away from synthetic chemicals which you are using and recommending. It's good we are having this conversation and for those reading and not familiar with non-toxic products I believe they need to be given some facts and creditable sites to continue the research themselves and determine what they choose to purchase and use, how much avoidance they wish to have to protect themselves and what will work best for them. Guest guest
Angel, Would you happen to have a list of ingred. for the products your foundation has? If so that would be wonderful. Would you mind e-mailing them to me. I have not had the pleasure of speaking with you in the past, and do not have a clue about your foundation. Do you have a website where I could learn more about it? Guest guest
Thank you both Rosie and Angel, It is nice to see 2 different view points. It allows us see a much wider picture. Then we have the input to make our choices, and give us choices to try. I have found that different view points are very helpful. You are apparently 2 professionals from 2 different areas. Have spoken and treated tons of people. We can now see how important it is to test things (trial & error) to see what we can tolerate. As each person is different. Thank you to the both of you for sharing your thoughts openly and with such professionalism. Guest guest
KC I'm so glad you shared this. I've noticed similar responses from other people with MCS. The product causes no reaction in the container but does once used topically either on themselves or on someone else. Such a mystery. Even happened once in our home. Had been using a fragrance fee soap myself for quite a while and asked DH to try it. He comes out of the bathroom and I had a nasty reaction. We both couldn't understand what happened. Somehow his body chemistry and the soap interacted. Rosie >>On Behalf Of tigerpaw2c A couple of times, I cringed when I saw Sharon sniffing a bottle of hand lotion, body lotion, etc., that a friend who was staying with us had, and wanted to make sure it wouldn't affect her. Several times just smelling the product she was fine, but the second our friend put it on their skin and this time it was just the hands, it was a whole different story. She could smell it even before she got into the room, we had to open up all the doors and windows while Sharon ran outside, because she was starting to have a reaction. She lost her voice for the rest of the evening. So when anyone is checking out new products, it may not be the product itself but the reaction it has with yours or someone elses body oils.KC>>
Guest guest
Only what I posted as I know them by heart. All the others can be found on the web from the respective companies. The one website that is up and running (as I am switiching to a non profit tax status) is updated with legal info on Angel Perfume and the science behind it. www.ntef-usa.org The 4 others will be up and running when uncle Sam forwards the 501 c 3 status reports. Guest guest
I hace a test base of 75 MCS'ers who use?try products who have varying degrees of chemical injury from mild to universal along with complications from fibro and chronic fatigue. The ones I list are the majority from those who can tolerate them. I tried Majik once and it stunk up my house for HOURS and I therefore would not even consider giving it to anyone else to try. I have a chemist working on alts and right now I think I have a completely safe deodorant, but until we test it in the dead of summer in Vegas I willnot recommend it. Suffice it to say it is water and 1 other natural ingredient. There is a good book that is made for people to create their OWN HBA ...Drop Dead Gorgeous by Kim kson. She is an environmental writier that has researched cosmetics for years. Even Epstein, MD endorses her book.
