Re: Question about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for MCS.

Hi yukon, welcome to the group. I haven't tried oxygen ,but wish I

had it everytime I have a MCS attack, think this would be better than

a mask as most masks dont stop everything and some cause asthma

attacks. can you tell me more about it? what is hyperbaric? do you

just carry oxygen with you and use it when you have a MCS

attack?

Here's some info - very good for wound-healing.

They started using it with scuba divers.

I have portable oxygen tanks at home and in my car, and use a ceramic

face mask for the treatments.

I was introduced to the oxygen therapy for treatment of reactions

during my testing sessions at an Environmental Clinic, and found it

very beneficial. Some triggers have me instantly vomiting, with

severe headache, tight chest & throat, shortness of breath, etc. I

also use 'ENO' for reactions, and find this helpful as well.

Some of the MCS research has pointed to brain area changes during

triggers - particularly with perfumes. Hyperbaric oxygen treatments

are delivered using specialized equipment, and can be quite costly,

eg. $100.00 per dive (usually one hour in the chamber) in Canada.

From what I have read, HOT is used more frequently in the US than

Canada. Several clinics are opening up across the country at this

time, and this will certainly make treatment more readily available.

I am going to ask my physicians to consider a trial of therapy but

could certainly use data & research, as well as user satisfaction to

support my case.

If yo have a tissue alkalosis reaction to substances then 02 therapy will

be effective. Have your MD look into that.

Thanks again Christi. It is truly a small world. I actually had the

pleasure of meeting Dr. Heuser when he visited Yukon in 2001 for a

lecture series. At the time I had just been starting sick leave and

had no idea what was happening to me - other than my body had decided

to react to everything in my environment. I will definitely be in
