I have a large bookcase with closing doors for these supplements. The stuff I take when on an empty stomach are on the top shelf in a row. The stuff I take in the morning with breakfast are on the top shelf and below. The stuff I take both morning and night are next down. And finally, the stuff I take only with the evening meal are the lowest in the bookcase. Everything is in order. I just go down the line. I can swallow 20-30 pills at a go easily with the tomato juice I wash them around with in the mouth before swallowing. Although I'm younger than 50, I also have grandchildren that I don't want to wander into my den and get access to these things, so I have a lock on the den's double doors which automatically locks when closed. It can be opened with a key, a digital code, or any of my fingerprints. > and if its not too personal, maybe you could give us some idea of the > total monthly expense The spread sheet I just put together adds up total pills and total daily costs. I'm taking 105 pills a day (not including prescriptions), two powders (counted at 2 pills on the spreadsheet) which costs $20.25 a day which is about $600/month. I would say that about 2/3s of the cost is from a small quantity of Life Extension Foundation Supplements. Where reasonable, I've switched to other brands from other sources over time. The LEF supplements are typically a combination they've put together and some of the ingredients are difficult to source elsewhere. LEF's mental/brain health stuff costs $1.66/day LEF's Endothelial Health stuff costs $1.20/day. Their Integra-Lean Irvingia product $1.20/day (I can resource this now) This vitamin Mix is $1.84/day. This one is difficult to assemble from other sources. LEF's mitochondrial energy optimizer is $1.95/day. LEF's vascular protect product is $1.13/day. There are several other things that add up to $5-6/day more. The LEF stuff adds up and after looking at my options, I may be able to lower over time down to $400/month from $600/month as things become available elsewhere in individual ingredients. I can buy in bulk and mix this (beyondacenturyonline.com and other) but I've used lots of bulk power before and it's time consuming daily to put the morning and evening dose together. The upside was there are no fillers in almost all bulk products. As it goes, it takes about 5 minutes morning and evening to assemble pills. I know someone who takes a lot more than I do who mixes up lots of powders and then just mixes so much into a morning and evening smoothie - sounds nasty tasting. However, he once worked for LEF for free on the condition that he get his supplements for life for free from them. This cuts his expenses dramatically. > thank you > fran My objectives are different than others. I'm interested not just in a normal length healthy life, but in serious life extension and cognitive enhancing drugs. As a consequences, I'm looking to avoid diseases I don't have, diseases which often come with aging. I plan on celebrating well and in excellent health the turning of the century at 2100 AD when I will be about 140 years old, an goal that is more than 90 years away. -- Steve - dudescholar4@... Guest guest
HI Steve, Thanks so much for all your effort in putting this together. I see you take the Mega Silymarin with Isosilybin B from lef. I mistakenly ordered the NSI-Milk-Thistle-Extract from vitacost.com http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-Milk-Thistle-Extract How superior is the one from lef and how many of the milk thistle should I take a day? I have elevated liver enzymes. Also, how many of the NSI Ubiquionol CoQH 100 mg softgels should I take a day? One more question, any suggestions for insomnia? Thanks, Pamela From: Steve <dudescholar4@...> After a number of requests to put together this list, I've finally put one together. Here's my supplements including links where I have sources. The amount is how much I take each day, not the amount in a capsule. For line items that say how many pills I take of something you'll have to click the link to see what's in them since breaking them out was not trivial. Vitamin E for example comes in 8 different isomers and is found mostly in three different products I take which will required one to click on all three links. This doesn't include the " smart drugs " and " life extension drugs " I also take on my own initiative. Obviously, all this is not cheap but one might find something here they might be able to use. Guest guest
I know you didn't ask me, but I have a suggestion for insomnia. Phosphatidyl serine taken around 5-6 pm works to lower cortisol. I used to take various other things, such as melatonin, herbal, or scripts. My Integrative Medical doctor suggested the PS, and it tends to work - maybe a little too well. The doc told me it might take a couple of days to work, but actually it worked right away for me. Good luck in your search. I > have elevated liver enzymes. If I wasn't taking the LEF one I would be probably be taking the one you ordered. Isosilybin B is not something that is standardized in any other product that I've seen but I haven't looked recently. Most likely it is in all of the Milk Thistle extract products to some degree, just not standardized. After adding up the costs of all my stuff, I just might be switching to the NSI/vitacost product the next time I order some. I'll have to go back and look at LEF's writeup. I had elevated liver enzymes from statin drugs and took about 1200 mg/day in divided doses. I switch to LEF's product a while back when it came out. Until then I was using anything that was 80% standardized to Silymarin that was a good price. You can also get bulk Milk Thistle Extract powder here for even cheaper: http://www.easycart.net/BeyondACenturyInc./Herbals_P-Z.html#8475 > Also, how many of the NSI Ubiquionol CoQH 100 mg softgels should I take > a day? I take this stuff twice a day since blood levels peak and then come down a lot by the end of 12 hours. 100 mg of ubiquinol has the same effect on blood level peaks as 800 mg of ubiquinone and taking 200 mg a day of ubiquinol will give you in theory an equivalent effect to taking 1600 mg/day of ubiquinone (regular CoQ10). > One more question, any suggestions for insomnia? I start most of my health searches here: http://www.lef.org/protocols And then go looking elsewhere. LEF has some fairly reasoned write ups on supplement and drug options but they also have their bias. I started taking cocoa extract, a supplement I consider quite important amongst all the stuff I take, long before it ever came up on LEF's radar screen. The only place to get it then was standardized bulk at beyondacenturyonline.com or to buy cocoa powder in the baking section of the local grocer. For Insomnia read here: http://www.lef.org/protocols/lifestyle_longevity/insomnia_01.htm I don't think they mention magnesium, Chamomile, Hops, or Passion Flower so those are other options to look into. The melatonin LEF mentions is what I would try first. I tried lots of things for Insomnia and finally when with a two prescriptions I alternate between. They don't work for me however unless I take some melatonin before hand. There are also Light & Sound machines which may be helpful or sleep hypnosis CDs. http://www.cerebrex.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY & Store_Code=C & Category_\ Code=MM -- Steve - dudescholar4@... Guest guest
Yes. It's in the list. I don't take a lot and really should take it in divided doses. I find it most useful if I've been working or will be working for several hours in the garden, loading dirt, moving rocks, or in other words a lot of physical labor. Under those circumstances, I might take an extra 5 grams or so. Steve ARC wrote: > > > That was fantastic! Guest guest
It's stated under " Directions " on the NSI D-Ribose: Directions As dietary supplement, mix one teaspoon (5 g) in your food or beverage as desired one to four times per day or as directed by a physician. For best results, do not take Ribose with any amount of protein. > > > Thanks. Do you know why D-Ribose should't be taken with any amount of > protein? I don't recall that being an issue.
