Green fava beans have not matured enough to sprout. They have to stay on the

bush until the pods dry and begin to open. Then the seeds inside are ready to be

planted - or sprouted.

tomatoes, peppers, etc., but maybe not the same variety. If you plant saved

seeds from a hybrid tomato, for instance, you will get a lot of different

varieties of tomatoes. Some will be good, others may not be so great. You can

select the ones you like, save seeds and plant them next season, save seeds from

the ones similar to the ones you liked in the first generation, until after

about 4 generations you should have something that breeds true. This is called

a " grow out " , and it's how an open pollinated variety is made from a hybrid. If

you are growing a hybrid jalapeno, it will give you jalapenos in future

generations because it's a jalapeno crossed with a jalapeno to give you the

hybrid.

labeled that way to discourage people from saving seeds. You won't know until

you try it, and if you're adventuresome, I encourage you to try it. I grew

some from a hybrid Husky Gold tomato once, and got some that were weak and

spindly and never even bloomed, and got some that were strong and produced

tomatoes that were pretty good, that I call " Not So Husky Gold " .

immature. The seeds don't mature once they are separated from the plant that

provides them with the nutrients they need. I hardly ever see mature seeds in a

pepper.
