Hi Jeanette,

That is such great news!! You won't have a problem because I have 2 Shriners closer to me. If you need any help, call me.

Good Luck,

Crista

p.s. When you call Shriners ask to speak to applications and do a phone application, that will save you alot of time.

Hello everyone,

We have decided that we absolutely want to check out Dr. D'Astous, an

d find out if Nick is a candidate for casting. We have started the

process of acquiring all of Nick's records and films (the ones we

don't already have). Hopefully we'll have everything in the next two

weeks. Our Shriner guy here said we need to be accepted to

Intermountain since we are sponsored by a different temple here for

Sacramento Shriners Hosp.

I'm going to make the call to SLC this week probably to find out if

they'll take us. Thanks so much to everyone for helping to get us to

this point. Have a great day,

Jeanette

Hi Bert,

I spoke to a couple of people at the Shriners in SLC yesterday, and they said that he is doing well. His surgery went as expected, without any problems. They said that they spoke to him personally, and that his voice sounded great. Everyone (including myself) is looking very forward to having him back.

Wanted to share the great news! I know we were all concerned about our great doc!

Subsequent Cast

I thought I should add that Bridget's AUgust cast was not super thick, thank goodness and her curve went from 34 out of cast to 7 in cast.

Her miss Mehta cast in May almost completely flattened her rib hump and took out nearly all of the rotation.

Our remaining issue is that Bridget is sooo flexible her back collapses straight back to 34 as soon as it is out. I am hoping we might be allowed to alternate between casts and a brace to try to build up some muscle around her spine as she has been in casts continuously for 13 months now.

Dr D'Astous did mention this as a possibility when my husband was there in August. It would be great to get her doing some swimming.

Has anyone heard how Dr D is doing following his heart surgery?

Bert,

I recently sent Olivias med records to Dr. Mark Lavallee in Indiana. He specializes in EDS and produced a DVD with the EDS Foundation. I hear through the grapevine that he is doing a study on EDS and scoliosis, but have no details yet. He has been invited to the next ETTP in Nov. I am hoping that the EDS Foundation and ISOP can eventually collaborate on a study relating to EDS and the effects it has on infantile/juvenile scoliosis. Anyway, I'll let you know what I find out.

Also, I strongly recommend the DVD titled "Important Physician information for all types of EDS". I think you should be able to purchase one from the EDS Foundation.

(It really put a lot of the puzzle pieces together for me..)

Dear ,

Thanks so much. I have been away all weekend so only just got a chance to catch up on posts. I will order the DVD and have a look as I need to know as much as possible so I can get myself educated. I really feel it would be good to try to build up her back muslces to help hold her correction in place.

Anyway I will see what I can find.

Thanks everyone for your responses. It seems to be a case of too many coincidences with a few of our kids.

thanks again
