I find these claims that anything but refined white sugar is going to contaminate our cultures, rather bizarre if less than scientific. What did the Russians use 3000 yrs ago? The sugar in the KT must have sucrose and agave nectar i believe she said is glucose so you need to add some sucrose to the mixture to prevent damage to the scoby- she gave the proportions, but I forgot, perhaps a search thru the archives will shed some light on this matter.
