Is dark cupboard necessary?

I have my very first attempt at kombucha (thanks Nori!!!) brewing in my room

which is in the basement of a house that has a window well. Do I really need to

brew it in a dark cupboard or is indirect lighting okay? We have had a mouse

problem in the past and the only dark place I have room to store it is on the

floor of my closet and it might attract the little critters again.

Thanks!!!

Lori
