Guest guest
Barb, The compost pile is not really near my house. It is far from the house, and there isn't much in there right now. Just leaves. But, it is there and ready to be used when I figure what to do with it. Thank you for your thoughts, and concern for our health. That is why I have not done anything with it yet. Have not had time to research it, not really sure what to do with it. For right now I am going to just use pots to grow in. However, I did want to ask a question about growing. HGTV had a special on the other night about growing tomatoes and other stuff. I didn't see, my mother did. They were showing how to grow stuff in hay. She told me about it, and ask if we could do this. Well, I am not an expert-BUT my first thought was mold. Now, am I being to paranoid or is this anyone else's thought too. I know mold is everywhere, the ground, my leaves, and so forth. So, what are the thoughts with the hay. Guest guest
Ok everyone. I have a compost pile in my garden; in fact I have 3 compost piles and have a small backyard. Why should I pay $10 for a little bag of compost when I can make my own? There is toxic mold then there is everyday mold. Mold is part of this world. My garden soil has mold in it; I love my moldy leaves in the compost pile; my soil loves and needs the compost; the plants need the compost to grow in. They could not grow in a sterile soil; just as we could not live in a sterile body. Our intestines are suppose to have between 3-5 pounds of friendly critters in them. Not all mold will harm us; just like all bacteria will not harm us. Since I've been ill with toxic mold I'm more careful; I'm more sensitive, my lungs are compromised. I will wear a face mask when outside working with the compost or digging in the garden or spreading some of my powdery organic garden additives and when I apply DE, just for protection and precaution but I do not react to the mold in my compost as I would to toxic mold. There is a difference. If I'm wrong, I hope the experts on this board will quickly correct me. why would anyone want to grow a vegetable in hay? What nutrients would the plant receive from hay? How would you keep it moist? Rosie Re: [] Re: Thank you barb Barb, The compost pile is not really near my house. It is far from the house, and there isn't much in there right now. Just leaves.
