Guest guest
Anybody on the list with thickening of lung tissues, visible on X-ray or CAT scan, due to mold exposure? The doc told my mom her lungs had the pattern of tissue damage usually seen only with pneumonia, but my mom, age 79, has never had pneumonia as far as she knows, just whooping cough when she was a toddler, respiratory allergies (mostly hayfever) for decades, and many bouts of bronchitis over the decades. Because I have trouble breathing at my mom's house, and because my mom's had a cough and sinus congestion and eczema for well over a decade, I have asked my mom to consider the possibility that she and I are both reacting to some mix of mold and dust mites in her house-me briefly, when I visit, and her 24/7. Mom will accept that I was exposed to molds in my previous home, and am now dealing with the aftermath, but she doesn't want to consider the possibility of dampness and mold in her own home, nor does she want to consider the dusty state of old pillows, mattresses, and other furniture and carpets, because she's got high housekeeping standards. My mom's physical problems have been multiplying the last couple of years, since installation of new energy-efficient windows throughout the whole house and the appearance of water stains on bathroom ceilings-she has trouble swallowing, blood and bone marrow abnormalities, unpleasant side effects to blood pressure medications, etc. Now the docs are quite worried about both her lungs and her heart-with no idea quite what's going on. Thanks for any clues listers can offer.
Guest guest
, What does the doctor mean by " thickening of lung tissues? " Maybe you can explain this in a little more detail. During the time of my wife's exposure, at her place of employment, she had suffered 4 or 5 cases of pneumonia within a year and a half. It got to the point where it wasn't any surprise anymore and we knew what was taking place before it got severe. The x-rays according to the doctors said it was bronchial pnuemonia and at the same time said the x-rays were normal. I could see the x-rays were not normal, there was a large amount off marblizing in both lungs, quite thick. (Spider webbing.) Upon review by other specialist of the same x-rays, there was a large amount of cupping at the bottom of the lungs. I can't recall at this time what the cupping ment. Also, one of the bronchial tubes had completely collasped, but yet the orginial doctors said these were normal and released her. She should have been put into the hospital immediately. After I found this information out I returned to the original doctor with the x-rays (a couple of years later) and asked if he could re- read these for me. He said absolutely, no problem. He looked and said it was bronchial pneumonia. I asked how he knew, his reply was, that's what we have been taught. I asked how he knew wasn't or caused by aspergillus or legionnella bacteria? He threw them back at me and said I can't answer that. It just goes to show you might want to get a second and third opinion. If you feel that your mom's house is making her sick and she is not convienced since it affects you everytime you are there, maybe you can get her to leave the house for a week or two and hopefully this helps to possibly convience her. Cleanliness does help of course, but some of the sickest homes or public buidings there was nothing visable. Not just necessarily from mold, of course there could be dust mites and bacteria and other allergens or toxins involved. That is why most of the people here have had their homes and/or businesses tested for various toxins/allergens and the bottomline it comes down to mold/mycotoxins. I would definately check the humidity in the house and have a professional test the home and maybe they could make some recommendations. Just my opinion. Guest guest
I still wonder about my dad's lung condition. They just come up with any name when they aren't sure what it is. His lung doctor said he has seen a lot of strange lungs in recent years. I would bet all from mold. I know my dad got his interstitual sp? lung condition from my soil at my house. He was in my crawl space years back and digging for some time trying to fix my water hole house. Can't convince him now tho that is where it came from. So obvious too. He also had that webby look in his X-rays and said it felt strange at the bottom of his lungs when he breathed. He go short of breath and could hardly walk to mailbox. This man walks everyday and fast for exercise. Not sure how long or what else but I know he took prednisone for some time. Mycotoxins cause inflammation and inflammation can cause diseases. He had short time exposure and probably why he got better. Can't recall how many years went by after his exposure and when his symptoms got bad. He probably had mild symptoms that led up to the bad ones. I have had lung burning here and there but not anytime lately. Guess the mycos liked my brain better and who knows what else.
