Granger, I've seen similar complaints before, but not being a big blogger/

poster/ groups person-I have no idea what the " rants " about. I think your

referring to trimming responses to the posters reply. Not sure I know how to do

this except for highlighting and deleting past info. It might be helpful, as a

service to myself and others in the dark to better explain why this is an issue,

and how to remedy it. Thanks.

Why do so many have such trouble trimming

posts?

This last Digest had darn near 100 pages!

Look Folks - we can learn a LOT from each other here - I helped pay my

way through college in the 70's by growing and selling mung and alfalfa

sprouts to restaurants -- I've got 80 pounds of wheat seed waiting to go

-- 5 pounds of mustard - a few pounds of turnip seed - no telling how

much of various seeds I have saved up around here -- and decades of

experience.

What none of have TIME for is wading through useless and inconsiderate

repetition.

If the knowledge is buried in posts which are mislabeled by Subject, and

include multiple pages of repetition, then the Group functionality is

greatly degraded.

end of rant -

, I don't know how this works with different mail programs. But in the mail

application that comes with the Macintosh laptop that I use I just highlight the

section of the letter that I am responding to, hit reply and I get an email that

looks like this one. The highlighted area is pasted below the typing area.

Sometimes when I read this list I see that someone is responding to something

that was posted by another person and I have no idea what specific thing is

being responded to and I would prefer to not read through the entire dozen posts

that are posted below to try to find out what is being spoken about. Copy and

paste the section that you are responding to and leave the rest behind.

I'm still trying to figure out what a digest is???

What does he mean exactly when he says the last digest was 100 pages long. Is

this someone's reply, or an actual digest. I don't know what the reference to a

digest means?

Can anyone clear this up? Much appreciated.

I guess the best way to really show everyone would be for someone to forward a

digest email to the group, a visual might help?

Mel, on , in the preferences, you can select if you want your

group emails to be sent to you as individual emails or a digest or if you want

to read them on the web only. If you select the digest format you get all the

emails of the day strung together in one email. This is helpful for people who

get their email once a day because they have jobs or whatever. I can see why

trimming posts is important because I get individual emails format and still

frequently can't see what an email has to do with the the six attached emails

below it. 100 pages is ridiculous. I also sometimes wonder why the subject line

never changes even when the topic of the discussion has changed.

Okay!!! now I get it. I have never subscribed to digest. Only individual emails.

Now I understand and I do thank you for clearing this up for me.
