Here are a couple of links. My neighbor put a room addition on and has it and likes it. * Do you know what kind of maintenance is required for these to prevent the distibution of mold spores? In particualar, how easy, and necessary, is it to clean the indoor and outdoor portions? Thanks.
Guest guest
, My neighbor just put on an addition to their house and it wasn't feasible to put ductwork from their furnace into new area so they went with this solution. They added about 30% to the size of their home, several rooms and a garage. I don't know them well. I asked them who the builder was as I am considering a room addition myself. She said she had an architect draw up the plans and then hired a contractor to build it. She gave me the name of the contractor only. He suggested same method to heat and cool addition here as it would be over a slab and so ductwork could not come in from basement where ductwork can run. For one room heating and cooling you can also get one of those units you see in motels that you can set thermostat to whatever you want for yourself. Those are also ductless. However heating and cooling guy I called about those gave me a 'huge' quote on that of $5k. Contractor said that was ridiculous quote so I imagine one can do alot better. This system is called a 'slim mini' and I expect the quote on it to be less than $2. The contractor is suggesting the one from Mitsuibishi called Mr Slim. My neighbors said they are very happy with it. I gave a link to it in post. I don't know if you saw it. I don't know maintenance would be. I haven't inquired yet. I'm still waiting on a bid for job. I would imagine you could send an inquiry to Mitsuibishi regarding maintenance requirements or you may be able to get a copy of maintenance manual that would come with it to read over. I just mentioned it since ductless would not be dragging any problem that is in the house into new area, so may be good for building 'safe room' for sleeping or spending alot of time while repairing any unsafe areas to older area of house for those people who would like to stay where they are, assuming they aren't living in a moldy 'area', neighborhood, it could be helpful.
