Guest guest
I work in a building that has severe water damage. The bottom level flooded over 4 years ago and they just posted a keep out sign. Wall to wall black mold grew with mushrooms. They finally used bleach and cleaned it up about 6 mos. or so ago. Additionally there was water in the crawl space beneath my office and that grew mold. They cleaned it with bleach at the same time. For about a year I have been complaining to the boss that I feel bad at work and better at home. Then 3 mos. or so ago I started having severe fatigue. I chalked it up to stress and only recently saw my doctor. i tested positive for eptein barr. She now says I have CFS. She says it is from mold exposure but doesn't really know all the tests to run. One of the blood tests she ran showed cladosporium herbarium in my blood. Dr. has had me out of work for 1 1/2 weeks. In the meantime I pushed for a mold inspector to inspect our building. The boss emailed me last night after I told him cladosporium herbarium was in my blood and said that the only place they found that was under my office but that none of it was migrating into the building. He said the only thing they found in my office was arthrinium and basidiospores, 43 spores per cubic meter and insignificant. They did find high levels of aspergillius/penicillium and trichoderma using tape collections stations. He didn't say where it was found. He said the mold inspector would be calling Monday at 8:15AM and they would talk about whether remediation was needed. Well, he emailed tonight and said that the tests came back negative or with very low trace amounts. He said that there was a high level of cladosporium outside and that is probably why it was in my blood. He said that the investigator recommended a higher grade air filter in our HVAC systems and HEPA air filters at each end of the building and then we were good to go. One other thing is that there are other employees with symptoms of fatigue, red and tearing eyes, respiratory symptoms, headaches, brain fog, etc. One employee was in the hospital for a lung infection from mold. (we have the same doctor) 4 of us have taken and tested positive on the eye test on Shoemaker's site. Questions: 1. Does this sound right for remediation? 2. How does it go from high counts to low? 3. Is it ok that cladosporium herbarium shows up in my blood and can it show up from outdoor exposure? 4. What is an acceptable level of aspergillus/penicillium and trichoderma? 5. What is going to happen when I go back in that building on Wednesday so I will not lose my job?
