Guest guest
I second this! My son was on Vyvance and risperdol (I had no choice the hospital put him on this). Last year in Nov. because of “school issues” they were not adhering to his ADHD, AS with high IQ or providing any supports. This resulted in a break down; no one understood him or wanted too. He was highly frustrated, always in trouble and felt “I can’t do anything right”. For two month’s I witnessed behavior straight off the bus. I begged, pleaded to change their program. In the midst, they wanted to do a BIP (behavior plan) that I was against solely because they believed it was pure defiance. I asked them to test this, that these “behaviors” i.e. incompletion of tasks, tasks avoidance, frustrations he actually had drawn-while at school- wanting to harm himself because he was depressed that he couldn’t get them to understand why these things were so difficult for him. Nor I but it wasn’t for my lack of trying. Since he has an high IQ, he is superficially foreseen as; “he knows better” therefore, held at detention (in school suspension) for various things that are not other wised witnessed to be solely his fault and or proven to be a manifestation or not. This is why we formally requested specific testings and an IEE. After my refusal of the BIP, for three consecutive weeks, meanwhile, the behavior I was witnessing straight off the bus, was apparently “my fault” as the school claimed they witnessed “no anxieties”. In fact the anxieties were coming straight from the school, straight off the bus, I would watch him daily and it took him 15-20 mint. to vent to me his issues although he never really could state exactly what. It was peers, the work load and the transition they made him do that year. (Transferred to another school, 5th grade and this school required moving from class to class. This sent him through a loop) eventually he broke down, couldn’t “take it anymore”. It’s such a long story… As you can tell, I am upset and advocate highly for my son especially since this occurred last year and currently they are doing the same. (he’s now 11 yrs and in Middle School) I have brought for the formal complaints. It gets much deeper, yet, last school year when the deterioration happened, I hospitalized him. He came out with no further dx yet was on these meds. I witnessed a child whom became terribly upset making his emotional state much worse than it was to begin with. He was aggressive worst part is, since the school suddenly agreed there were issues, it was my fault. They called human resource on me about my son. Little did they know, I pro actively written to this department, provided doctors letters proving he was not at threat to himself or others. This was a bit underhanded from our district and how they deal with such students. I did want to say this about these medications, after hospitalization occurred, I could NOT get anyone to help me take him off these meds. Not even his ped, then I was forced to send him back to school knowing the medication had this effect on him, now what was the school to think? I was so afraid an incident would take place while at school..misconstrued..then what? I finally took him off the meds myself after repeated attempts to get help from the prescribing doc (hospital doc reported he was no longer their patient they claimed, the therapist there recommended montesorri schooling for his gifts to be reached and understood. No such thing in our area or affordable, besides our current doc doesn’t believe that’s what’s best, I agree! Yet no other alternatives than this district! We tried Home schooling over the summer.), although I wouldn’t recommend this, as for us, we had no choice, I took him off myself. PS: this school year, is a repeat of last school year…although he is holding out much better than last (SO FAR!). I live in fear of another deterioration simply because he’s not getting his needs met and again..they believe it’s mere behavior, inflating grades, declassification going on etc. We are going for due process and a neuropsych’s eval that we plan on having district to pay in the very near future. So, if I don’t answer a post…that’s because IM busy either packing or emailing state dept. Guest guest
My daughter was on Straterra from July til mid December for ADHD. As the Dr. increased the dose the aggressive and violent behavior increased. She was suspended for stealing an x-acto knife from shop class and once they got it away from her she broke down crying that she wanted to kill herself because she couldn't take it anymore. The school nearly sent her to inpatient psychiatric hospital, but allowed me to take her home because She had an appointment with a new counselor that day and an appointment with the psychiatrist to take over medication management. I dropped her from 80mg to 40 (she is only 70 pounds) and that helped. I then dropped her down to 25mg for a week after seeing the Psych Dr. and then took her off completely. I now have my daughter back. She is rarely aggressive verbally and physically. She still mentions wishing she were dead, but it is usually in relation to school and generally only when mad. My daughter takes AdderallXR and does fine with that for her ADHD symptoms. > > Recently I took my son (age 16) off of ABILIFY, CELEXA, and STRATTERA > because he was becoming more and more VIOLENT and AGGRESSIVE towards > me and his sister. Guest guest
I am an avid advocate for not using medicaitons to treat autism unless all other alternatives are exhausted the need outweighs the risks. Even if medication becomes necessary, it should only be used for a short period of time and ALL children on these types of medication should be reevaluated frequently to test the continued necesity. These types of medications affect the awareness center of my brain and slow my thoughts to the point where I am not able to function or care properly for myself. I also became like a tin robot in my movements. I am autistic and was on risperadol for a period of time and have been treated with many other anti-psychotic medications. It was not until I was taken off all of the medications that I began to "wake up" to the world around me and found my place with in it. I live medication free to date and although I still have my bad days, no pill is required to medically restrain me. http://speakup.today.com
Guest guest
I understand the knee jerk style of prescribing meds to kids but we are clearly seeing anxiety and nasty moods with our 8yr old son who was diagnosed with mild Autism. It is exhausting to be ready for the unpredictable anxiety and mood swings. I am not a big on drugs but I am feeling pretty convinced he needs something to help him. He is so moody. I feel so sad when he is suddenly so confused and anxious, not knowing what to do without watching TV, shooting lego games and computer games. We don't like to allow a lot of any but try to be flexible. We think the lack of structure related to summer vacation is really hard on him. In the meantime, he gets so moody and anxious. We can't always cater to his moods since we have a young toddler as well. I don't want to be drugging him because we don't have time to entertain and keep him engaged at all times but its so bewildering, overwhelming and sad to see him so upset all th time. > > Awosome message! > > > vitalityhealth > > Dr. Tocco > 1567 B Sam Rittenberg Blvd. > ton. Rich Maricelli says a 200-pound black bearattacked the woman's 12-year-old collie just after midnight Wednesday on theback porch of her home about 15 miles west of Missoula. When the woman, whom police did not name, screamed to draw the bear'sattention, it charged her and swiped at her leg. Maricelli says the woman jumped back into the doorway and reached for thenearest object on her kitchen counter — a 12-inch zucchini from her garden. The woman flung the vegetable at the bear, striking it on top of the headand causing it to flee. W
Guest guest
Bears have good memories. A friend left food in his basement and the bear smelled, entered through sliding door and ate all the food. Following year on exact date, the bear came back, not finding food, the bear wrecked his basement -- tore everyting out -- like as if letting them know it was angry coz there was no food. I kid you not, i myself thought she was kidding, apparently not. This happened in the Poconos, Pennsylvania. > > > n: > > You have bears and coyotes? Why am I sounding so surprised? And he was still wiggling. I found out they took him out to the country and let him go. He had eaten all their grapes. > > And n. Guest guest
Hi. That's very funny. If I ever saw a bear in my backyard, well, I can guarantee you HE COULD EAT ALL THE FOOD HE WANTS FROM THE BACKYARD. I give people credit. Living with bears in the backyard, raccoons, deer, etc. Some of my family members live in a beautiful home in Jersey and they have a big sliding see through glass door that goes into their yard. They have this huge hedge around the yard. So I was sitting in the recliner casually looking out through the glass doors and I saw all the kid's toys, the treehouse, things that people have in their yard. So I casually commented. " You have any deer around here? " Well, one of them said " Oh we have 6 point bucks here all the time " . Melody had never heard of 6 point bucks. I said " what are you talking about, what is a 6 point buck? " Then he said (so casually you might think he was talking about a tv show " , he says " oh you know, the deer with the antlers " I said " you have deer with antlers in your back yard? " and he said " Oh yeah, they jump over the hedge " Melody got out of that recliner so fast I forgot I had arthritis. lol Mel

My partner Graham's nan is waiting for a scan on her neck, she couldn't move her arm the other day, the Dr thinks she may have an anereseum in her neck as she has a lump there. What can be done about this? She is 90 and got angina? I have now been referred to the pain clinic at Stanmore for my scoliosis, not sure what sort of treatment they do? I look forward to hearing from you, hope its not snowing there. Liz
