n,

You obviously had a wonderful Thanksgiving especially having so much success in

convincing your sister of all the benefits of sprouting.  It must be Walking on

Air Time at your house and I look forward to hearing a report on how she is

doing in converting her and the children's diet into a revamp of healthy eating.

Speaking of broccoli sprouts.... I was so looking forward, as was my husband, to

having them by now, after starting them on Tues. I think.  I knew by yesterday

there was something wrong as approx. half of them had sprouted, and the odor

coming from them was pretty bad to say the least.  I would think it was

something I did wrong, but my alfafa and mung bean sprouts were great.  I got

the seeds at health food store in small pkges,  the same as my other seeds,

before I knew I could buy them in bulk, which I plan to do next time.  Is it

normal for brocoli sprouts to smell like rotten cabbage, since they are in the

same family?  I daresay it is not normal for only half the seeds to germinate,

so it leads me to suspect that the seeds may have been old.  I will try to do

the rest of the pkge but have little confidence there will be much difference,

Any thoughts on this sad kettle of broccoli?  If this had been my first attempt

at sprouting I would

probably be ready to throw in the towel.    I am glad yours were such a bit hit

yesterday.

Melody

I hope your thanksgiving was peaceful

I have to thank you for the videos you posted on sprouting with the sproutgarden

trays. My sister (to my surprise) really likes broccoli sprouts and wanted to

learn how much effort was involved in rinsing every day. So I showed her your

video on rinsing. I also showed her your video on how they stack. She is

impressed. Plus, on Weight Watchers, sprouts apparently have no points and one

can eat them freely. An added bonus. I told my sister how you lost a lot of

weight eating a healthier diet that includes sprouts and how sprouts have

affected your diabetes. She was again impressed.

As a result, I am getting her a sproutgarden set and seeds for Christmas. I am

particularly thrilled her favorite are the broccoli sprouts-I am always

concerned about her health. My Mother died at age 56 of colon cancer, so I would

feel better myself if my sister ate sprouts, especially broccoli.

So thank you Melody for making and sharing your sprouting videos.

Yes I feel very fortunate that my sister is interested in sprouting.

Broccoli does smell a little bit, and I have had the experience of old seed not

sprouting well.

Don't fret, just wash out what's not sprouting and nurture the rest.

My micro arugula crop didn't yield well due to my mistake of putting the seeds

and soil in a container with poor drainage.

I salvaged what I could though.

I will keep that in mind for next crop, but I threw the smelly buggers away this

morning.  and the smell was so bad I could not even keep them in the garage as

the grandboys were playing pool in there and would have wondered what died and

Gramma forgot to bury it.  So I put the tray outside and hoped the buzzards

would eat them.  I cannot imagine eating them, and I am not fussy at all about

what I eat.

Hi All!!

I have a funny sprout story to tell you. Yesterday I harvested all of my

batches. I put them in my containers and I had planned to put some in big

ziplock bags and bring the next door to my landlord's house. She was having the

whole bunch over for Thanksgiving. I timed it right. I knew that about 6 p.m.

they would all be sitting down for coffee and cake. So I had made sugar free

peanut butter cookies also.

So there I was, knocking on the door (I only expected one of them to come to the

door, I'd give them the bags of sprouts and the cookies and I'd be on my way).

All of a sudden I hear " Melody is here with the sprouts "

One of the ladies LOVES sprouts. I always give her a bag when she comes over.

So I handed her the two bags and she was beaming. I felt so good. I then said

" grab one of these cookies, you won't believe they are sugar free " . They tasted

them and they were a big hit.

So there I was talking about my sprouts again, over their Thanksgiving coffee

and cake.

I don't expect I'll convert any of them, but the one lady does love my broccoli

sprouts and on another occasion, her husband chimed in " you know, I like your

sprouts " . I burst out laughing.

So I AM getting the word out.

Oh, today I bought my first ever Stand Up Mixer.

Can't wait to get it. Never used one.

Hey, I'm 63, learning how to cook and bake. Lord only knows what I'll create in

my kitchen.

lol

I'm delighted. In the past two days I've given lots of ziplock bagfuls of

sprouts away to neighbors and friends.

They won't grow them, they just like eating them.

How fun!!!

Thanks much n.

It's nice to know that I have a purpose.
