Guest guest
Hi, I'm relatively new to making Kombucha. It seems like I read some where a stainless steel container was acceptable in making Kombucha. So I started my last batch in a stainless steel pot, having difficulties finding a gallon glass jar at the time. I am able to sit it on the back of the stove and keep it warm enough and it doesn't have to be in the dark like glass. Does anyone have comments, positive or negative, making Kombucha in stainless steel containers? Gootziecat
Guest guest
Hi Gootzicat and welcome. It is not a good idea to brew your KT in any kid of metal container. The stainless steel is for making the tea only. Metal kills off the Bacteria's and everything in the KT. I am afraid you will have to start over my friend. Here are a few good sites for information on brewing KT. Hope this helps. Guest guest
If a magnet does not " stick " to the stainless, the pot is acceptable. If the magnet does " stick " to the pot, do not brew the kombucha for any length of time. Robbie stainless steel pot Hi, I'm relatively new to making Kombucha. Guest guest
a cheaper option may be to get a stainless steel teapot (i think mine is a Norpro and cost less than $20 through a wholesale club). my pot holds about a quart and a half, so i boil a pot full and steep my tea in a gallon jar, boil a second pot and take the tea bag out and put the 2nd pot of water and the sugar in. this gives me about 3 quarts, and when its cool i add my 2 cups of KT and the scoby and this fills the jar to the part where it narrows for the lid - perfect amount. i actually have a big stainless steel pot, but find pouring from it into my containers messy, even with a funnel i always spill some, so i like the spout on the teapot for this much better. it may take a bit longer but i am generally puttering around in my kitchen anyway while doing this because as we all know - a watched pot never boils, and watched KT doesnt grow a SCOBY! happy brewing dl dl
