Guest guest
My adventure with CSM is not going as smoothly as I'd anticipated. Gonna work with my MD and my qigong master to try to figure out what's going on. The overall battle plan this year was to start to address mold toxins in my body, then go back to the heavy metal chelation that was so exhausting and problematic earlier (still have high levels of arsenic and mercury), then look at what systemic infections (HHV-6, Chlamydia pneumoniae, some Mycoplasmas, etc-typical for CFS, GWI, etc) can be reduced or eliminated with anti-virals, anti-biotics, immune-system boosters, etc. In the past, we've also tried blood thinners for hypercoagulable blood, but I'm allergic to heparin (clot more, not less) and now on the CSM, have more bleeding gums and longer, heavier menstrual periods that usual. That long-term battle plan may be in jeopardy, what with heart stress, kidney stress, menstrual problems that may or may not be attributed to approaching menopause, and flaring pain, since being on the CSM. Thought I'd do a bit more digging on the Internet, so see what side-effects CSM can cause, other than the commonly-mentioned constipation and depletion of some fat-soluble vitamins. Found this webpage interesting, so thought people on this list might also. http://www.healthsquare.com/newrx/QUE1366.HTM What side effects may occur? Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Questran. The most common side effect of Questran is constipation. Less common or rare side effects may include: Abdominal discomfort, anemia, anxiety, arthritis, asthma, backache, belching, black stools, bleeding around the teeth, blood in the urine, brittle bones, burnt odor to urine, dental cavities, diarrhea, difficulty swallowing, dizziness, drowsiness, fainting, fatigue, fluid retention, gas, headache, heartburn, hiccups, hives, increased sex drive, increased tendency to bleed due to vitamin K deficiency, inflammation of the eye, inflammation of the pancreas, irritation around the anal area, irritation of the skin and tongue, joint pain, lack or loss of appetite, muscle pain, nausea, night blindness due to vitamin A deficiency, painful or difficult urination, rash, rectal bleeding and/or pain, ringing in the ears, shortness of breath, sour taste, swollen glands, tingling sensation, ulcer attack, vertigo, vitamin D deficiency, vomiting, weight gain or loss, wheezing. Special warnings about this medication If you have phenylketonuria, a genetic disorder, check with your doctor before taking Questran Light because this product contains phenylalanine. If you are being treated for any disease that contributes to increased blood cholesterol, such as hypothyroidism (reduced thyroid function), diabetes, nephrotic syndrome (kidney and blood vessel disorder), dysproteinemia, obstructive liver disease, or alcoholism, or if you are taking any drugs that may raise cholesterol levels, consult your doctor before taking this medication. Caution is also in order if your kidney function is poor. Questran should begin to reduce cholesterol levels during the first month of therapy. If adequate reduction of cholesterol is not obtained, your doctor may increase the dosage or add other cholesterol-lowering drugs. Therefore, it is important that your doctor check your progress regularly. Questran does not cure the tendency to have high cholesterol levels; it merely helps control it. To maintain healthy levels, you therefore must continue taking the drug as directed. The use of this medication may produce or worsen constipation and aggravate hemorrhoids. If this happens, inform your doctor. To prevent constipation, the doctor may increase your dosage very slowly, and ask you to drink more fluids, take more fiber, or take a stool softener. If severe constipation develops anyway, the doctor may switch to a different drug. The prolonged use of Questran may change acidity in the bloodstream, especially in younger and smaller individuals in whom the doses are relatively higher. Again, it is important that you or your child be checked by your doctor on a regular basis. Sipping Questran or holding it in your mouth for a long period can lead to tooth discoloration, enamel erosion, or decay. Be sure to brush and floss regularly. Guest guest
Thank you- The only negative side effect that I might have is discoloration with my teeth, that I did not have before starting CSm about a year ago- Although I might enjoy a heightened sex drive- no such luck > > My adventure with CSM is not going as smoothly as I'd anticipated. Guest guest
Rhonda, I was literally losing it a few months ago when my landlord was doing uncontained mold 'remediation' in the apartment below us. I was lucky enough to be told by someone on this list about CSM, went to my doctor, and she initially thought I was a nut, but eventually, thanks to my printing out the time study paper..I got them to prescribe it for me. I was in terrible shape.. and it has made me so much better. Rhonda, if you are ever as sick as I was, you would - I am *sure* that you would welcome something like CSM. It sucked - and continues to suck - as I still live in my 'mold palace' for now.. some serious bad stuff out of me..(and those days HURT- it was intense.. I could feel it doing this..) it is a godsend.. literally.. Teeth discoloration.. I haven't noticed it.. and honestly, I think that if you have any problems with CSM, before you start taking it, if they really matter so much, you shouldn't take it. Guest guest
As I read the warnings they said if you rinse your mouth out and brush your teeth this will alleviate this possibility. I am sure the mold will cause my teeth to fall out anyway so who cares....
