Guest guest
Melody, instead of buying a gadget that you don't use part of, check out electric salad spinners. Just pay for what you need. ew What do you all think about an Electric Salad Spinner I presently have 4 salad spinners in my home. I have the BIG OXO one and the little $6.99 ones that I got from my local store (that sells everything). I am tired of the pumping pumping pumping that I need to do to get the hulls out. If I didn't have arthritis, I wouldn't care BUT I DO have arthritis so I said to myself " why don't they make an electric salad spinner " Well, I found this http://www.amazon.com/Presto-02905-Peel-Electric-Peeler/dp/B000V7A9WQ/ref=pd_sbs\ _k_3 It seems that the primary use for this thing is to peel potatoes (I don't eat potatoes but who cares). In the title/description of this thing, it says " potato peeler/salad spinner. I read what comes with it and it says " peeler and salad spinner attachment). So I gather that the salad spinner attachment is a basket that you insert in this electric gizmo and put the top on and plug it in and press some button, AND BINGO!!! no more pumping. So here's my question. Have any of you used this gadget (or something similar?) My use of a salad spinner to dehull is nothing short of amazing and saves MUCHO WORK!!! But if this electric gizmo works, it will save my hands. Any and all comments are welcome. Thanks much Melody It's up on various sites for $23 up to $49.99 It's cheap enough for me IF IT SPINS LIKE THE OXO!!!! I read reviews but everyone buys it for the potatoes, and one person wrote " I don't like the way it peels potatoes so now I'm stuck with an expensive salad spinner " . I would LOVE this if it's a good salad spinner. So if anyone has tried this (or found something similar and it's cheap) let me know, okay? Thanks much Melody =
Guest guest
What do you think I'VE BEEN DOING for the past 30 minutes ? I saw one that is a commercial salad spinner for over $500.00 All I want is a little electric salad spinner that will give my hands a break. If you find one, let me know. Guest guest
How do you use the salad spinner to get hulls off? My first batch is done and just greening ( in melody's recommended green trays - awesome). I have the big oxo one Sent from my iPhone On Sep 6, 2010, at 10:40 AM, Melody <eliz7212@...> wrote: What do you think I'VE BEEN DOING for the past 30 minutes ? Guest guest
Hey there, HERE I AM!!! lol I shall continue on my quest to find an electric salad spinner but until then, I use my OXO (big one too). Here's what you do. First, separate the basket from the bowl. I take two trays at one time. I take out the basket and put the basket NEXT to the bottom of the salad spinner, so you'll have the clear bowl and the basket. I take two trays that are bursting with sprouts, and dump them in the clear bowl. I completely fill the bowl with cool water. I swish swish swish with my hands. You'll see MANY MANY hulls float to the top. I have this skimmer gadget thing that I use to take all the holes that are now collecting at the top of the bowl. I keep swishing swishing, and more hulls float to the top. I do this (I change the water sometimes too). So now I have clean sprouts in clean water. I take a bunch of the sprouts in my hand, swirl in the water, and deposit them in the basket that is standing alongside the bowl. These sprouts are now draining into my sink. All this is done in my kitchen sink by the way. I keep taking handfuls of sprouts and depositing them in the basket. When I have most of the sprouts OUT of the bowl and INTO the basket, I empty the bowl and then I put the basket that is filled with my sprouts into the bowl and NOW I USE IT AS A SALAD SPINNER. PUMP PUMP PUMP, and when you take out the basket you'll see lots of water and lots of hulls. Just throw them out. Put the basket back in, and pump pump pump again and repeat. Now, when I started using the OXO, I left the basket full of sprouts INSIDE THE SALAD SPINNER, filled it with water and pumped it. Too hard on my hands. Pumping the thing that is filled with water. yeah, it separates the hulls, but for me, too hard. So back to de-hulling. When the sprouts are sufficiently dry, I put them in m Debbi Myer green bags. Store in fridge. I could do this in my sleep. I found this to be (for me), the best way to de-hull sprouts. Let me know how your turn out.
