I have under the cabinet flourescents that my greening sprouts are exposed to.

The trays are not directly under them but they surely benefit from them

My wheatgrass gets lots of indirect sunlight as it grows on a butcher block

counter a few feet away from the windows. I have orchids, cacti, and sinningia

on window shelves taking up most of light. Wheatgrass does not seem to need a

great deal of light to grow nicely.

I know this will sound dumb but do you eat wheat grass the same way you do other

sprouts?  I really am new to this venture.

Have you used the ocean liquid that the man in the video does?  That's another

new one on me.  His flor. light set up reminds me of the Floracarts I used many

years ago to raise African Violets  in the basement when we lived in Va.  When

you walked down the steps to the basement you thought you were in a

indescribable wonderland, hundreds of blooming violets in many colors.  I used

to show them and was a judge, as well as held all the offices in the Old

Dominion African Violet club, what a hobby that was, as well as a source of pin

money as I sold them to florists also.  I had a sign in my yard for them, and

one day a black lady came in, looked all around,  picked out a beautiful dark

purple one, and said " What is the name of this one, Miss " ?  I got a bit

tongue tied when I had to tell her the name of the violet was Coon Valley.   One

of those things you never forget.  I had to give up violets when we moved to Fla

as there are no

basements here and its too hot to grow them in the garage, though  there are

some pretty ones on my window sill.  Now my next obsession seems to be

sprouting, and out of many enterprising hobbies I have had this is the only one

I can eat!

I have an omega juicer that I use to extract the juice from the wheat grass. The

only ones who eat it as is are the cats, dog, and birds.

I am amazed to hear you once kept and judged violets. I have a light stand

thanks for sending the video, it was very informative and quite an inspiration

to be more scientific about sprouting.  I wish I knew how old that guy is, cause

if drinking wheatgrass juice makes your skin look like that I am going to get

into growing those too.

Does the wheatgrass juice taste bad or the wheatgrass?  All I can say is if

wheatgrass juice gives the man on the video that complexion it is worth the

price of a juicer, whatever that is.

Did I ask you if you have ever used the  Ocean Solution that the guy uses?  I

have not looked up the price of it, but wonder if it makes a difference in the

output of the sprouts as well as added nutrition.

I noticed that he does not specify what kind of soil he uses, which surprised me

as he is very specific about everything else he does.

It's no wonder he's in great shape w/ that amazing diet of grasses and greens.

I've just recently been adding diluted ConcenTrace trace mineral liquids, by

Trace Mineral research to my watering spray on my sprouts, greens, and

wheatgrass and they are all growing more quickly -particularly the wheatgrass

which has never looked better-day 4 and mold free! I did order the OceanSolution

concentrate along w/ their Citricide-which naturally repels fungus and mold.

It's a bit steep, but lasts a long time. I'll update once I've had a chance to

use them.

Do you use soil in growing sprouts, wheatgrass?   Do you juice wheatgrass or eat

it like sprouts?  I never saw 9 in. sprouts before, but Gino talked about it as

though he eats it without juicing it.

I now have  my husband checking the garage for a place to put a plant stand and

lights, oh Lord, here we go.  It helps that he is a nutrition nut too.

Hi.

I watched the videos and then went to the website. I am interested in whether or

not I would be able to add some of this ocean solution to my soaking water.

There is a FAQ's segment and someone asked this and he said " if you put this in

the soak water it would put all the minerals, etc, in the seeds " (I'm

paraphrasing)

So one liter costs $30 plus $15.00 shipping and handling. Would any of you use

this for any of your sprouts?

I generally grow wheatgrass in soil. Lately using sphagnum peat moss/ perlite

mix to try to prevent mold and have been having great success. In the past I

have also grown soilless in an auto Easygreen Sprouter with good success as

well. I need room for my sprouts though so started using the soil and trays for

the grass. You cant eat wheatgrass-too tough to digest. You most definitely need

to juice it to brake the plant cellulose down to get to the beneficial

nutrition. You can use a relatively inexpensive manual juicer, or a more

expensive electric juicer-but make sure it specifically will juice wheatgrass.

Not all will. I have an Omega VRT330 Juicer - a newer vertical juicer, which

works well w/ grass and veggies / fruits. Some people blend the grass well w/

some water in a blender and then drain and filter out the fiber with a nut bag.

In any event, they generally recommend no more than 3 ounces or so a day, as it

is very potent and can be quite detoxifying. Some people love the taste. It is

super sweet so I generally quickly down a shot of it and follow it w/ water or

something to get rid of the sweetness. Take it slow at first. I had a friend who

first off downed a ten ounce glass of the stuff, had a major detoxifying

reaction- dizzy/ nausea, and never touched the stuff again. One of the folks who

put wheatgrass on the map was Ann Wiggmore from the Hippocrates Institute. You

can get a lot of info from them, and related sites on wheatgrass. Have a great

I sure would use ocean solution on my sprouts, tomato plants and my flowers in

the garden.  That is not a bad price as it would last for a long time, what did

he say 1 ts. per 5 gal., not sure but I think that is what he said.  Even using

it for other things than sprouts it would go a long way.  And I have found that

using well known fert. on my garden such as Miracle Grow is a waste of money.  I

will order some and call it my Thanksgiving present!  I will send pictures of my

flower garden after they get the Magic Ocean Solution.

I will definitely be watering w/ the diluted Oceansolution, and its probably a

good addition to the soak water as well. I use an Easygreen auto sprouter and

have always added some trace mineral drops to the water resevoir. I seem to see

a difference in the health of the sprouts and they do seem to grow quicker,

although I cant actually prove this. I think the Ocean solution site has some

research documentation re: mineral content of treated sprouts-or wheatgrass. I

have ordered the Oceansolution so I'll be using it soon and see how it goes. It

makes sense to me that it would be of benefit, as the sprouts do take up water

in the sprouting process, and would take up the abundant minerals in the

solution added to the water. This is probably more apparent when watering greens

and wheatgrass but I figure it couldn't hurt w/ the sprouts and possibly make

them even bigger nutrient powerhouses than they already are.

thanks for the good info.  If I used soil or spagnum I would spray it with

peroxide as I would be concerned about mold and peroxide is an anti fungicide as

well as an oxygenator.  I will check on the juicers but using the blender might

not be a bad idea for awhile.  If the juice is super sweet I will probably love

it as I am a sugar-holic almost.  thanks for the warning about taking it slow, I

would have thought more is better, knowing me.

I will keep you posted on growing/juicing wheatgrass, it looks like a real

interesting and satisfying project.  Have to get past Thanksgiving first though.

Hi.

I'm thinking of treating myself to a one liter bottle. The man said to combine

one part ocean solution to 100 parts water. Now if someone can kindly explain

exactly what this means, I'd appreciate it.

Let's say I have a gallon jug of spring water. How much do I add of the ocean

solution to the gallon jug of spring water?

And I know not to store it in the fridge because the guy said to keep it at room

temperature and I believe you have to change the water after one month.

So am I correct in assuming I take a gallon jug of spring water, add (???) to

that gallon jug, put the cap on, and set it on the bottom shelf of my shelves?

And whenever I make a batch of sprouts, I add some of the ocean water to the

mason jar that is filled with water and sprouting seeds?

Did I get this right?

I know you watched to video and the man said how much Ocean solution he put in a

5 gal. bucket, so divide whatever he said by 5 and that will be how much you put

in a gal.  I guessed wrong about the amount and will have to watch video again

to get right amount before I get my solution and start to mix it.  you can store

the solution any where it is convenient, don't waste refrig. space.

Yes you do add a small amt. of solution to the soaking seeds and spray small

amt. every day while they are sprouting.  I like the idea of using small amt. of

peroxide, he gives amts to soaking seeds to protect against mold.

My husband said it was OK to order the Ocean solution and I think I will order

the sprout starter that said he uses.  Husband said it was cheaper than

buying me the red  cadillac I was looking at last week.

Ann wigmore's book on wheatgrass is so inspiring. I took a shot of wheatgrass at

a health food store and then bought the book.

You have a great juicer. If anyone is interested in juicers the guy from

discountjuicers.com have many excellent videos on YouTube where he shows you how

to juice things and compares and reviews different juicers.

Even though I am all set with juicers (I have the omega 8004 & a revile juice

fountain) I enjoy watching his videos. I usually drink a lot of juice. After

making it fresh I find I can't bear the taste of bottled.

Same with sprouts-my own freshly grown are amazing compared to store bought.

I neglected to answer your question about if I use any ocean or kelp solution. I

don't. The wheatgrass juice is sweet with a bitter aftertaste. But a water or

juice chaser works great.

I laughed when I read about your husband checking where to put your light stand.

My husband too will humor me in whatever I am plotting to do. He bought me my

plant stand last year and doesn't bat a eye when I tell him I am spending money

on seeds, books, supplements, etc.

He feels better about paying for sprouting materials then the doctor!

When my sauerkraut maker arrived the other day and I informed him I'd be making

sauerkraut and pickles soon, he just smiled.

I buy 20 pound bags of soil at loses for under $2 and plant the soaked and

sprouted wheat berries in about an inch of soil.

Good idea, but he spent all day Sat. cleaning my 9 year old red cad. inside and

out and it looks so good I don't even want the newer one.  My daughter came over

in her '08 red caddie on Sat. and it almost knocked my eyes out it was so shiny

and magnificent but I still was happy with my old one.  The only thing I envy

Laurie for is the back up alarm that goes off when you are backing up and close

to hitting something that her car has, as I hate to back up and would love to

know when I am going to run into someone.  But it is a good feeling to be able

to buy fun things for sprouting and know that, as you say, am saving money on

growing my own.  And I don't need a newer car, I never go anywhere, too much fun

staying home and working in the garden and talking on the computer.  LOL.

We are indeed very fortunate, a good husband is hard to find, sounds like an old

song I used to play on the organ, there I go again thinking of long ago days.

But I thank God everyday that He gave me a generous guy who does not complain

when I buy stuff,  but he knows I am very conservative so it could be worse. 

And he will make a plant stand and I won't have to buy one.  For a retired

insurance man he is the most talented handyman on the planet.   And as I said

earlier, he is very much in favor of anything I buy that will make him healthier

and live forever! ha ha.
