I saw Dr. Johanning. I wasn't going to say anything but I think you

posted this twice so I will tell about my visit. He is a very

respected Mold Researcher. I don't know if he is a treating doctor

now. I went to him in 2000 expecting to be treated. I waited 8

months for my appointment. Had the best insurance. Had a very good

visit but Dr. Johanning resigned from his position at the NY

Environmental Center in Albany several weeks or so after my visit. I

was devestated when I called the doctor to get feedback, and found

out he resigned. It took me some time to get a report and I had to

pay extra for my report. He linked my illness with the mold and said

I had systematic fungal disease. He called my local doctors to give

suggestions to give me sporanak (spell) but my doctors were afraid.

In fact several of them told me it was out of their realm of

expertise and were afraid to treat me. Even my asthma doctor said

he couldn't help

me anymore. Now I am very afraid since I can't afford

anything at this point. I saw a doctor recently that was great but

it is very expensive to get anything. He did give me an antiobotic

recently because I had a serious infection. I called to see how

expensive it was and it was 140.00 for 10 pills. Luckily the doctor

gave them to me and also sent me a more pills in the mail since they

were so expensive. Luckily it helped.

Can you tell us how the doctor knew it was systematic

fungal disease? These terms are so new to me. What

symptoms did you experience? What antibiotic was it

that helped. Always good to ask our doctors about

different options.

Hi , Thanks for your reply. I did post twice because no one

responded. I understand he is not in fact retired and I wante dto

make an appointment with him mainly to prove causation. What

disturbed me was that when I tried to get some idea of what this

would cost his office seemed to be less than forthright and I almost

had the feeling I was being scammed. I finally had to ask teh

questions in such a manner that nothing could be ommitted.There is a

high initial visit fee and ( after much questioning) you will

apparently be billed another high fee just to get your results and

visit with him again. Additionally he charges a high hourly fee for

conversing with your lawyer. If you want a report apparently all you

will receive are copes of the the doctors notes. All of this of cours

is not covered by insurance. I was all excited to make an appointment

until it was obvious that his secretary was not being forthright. It

really turned me off. I had to literally pull teeth to get some idea

of the whole cost. All I wanted to know was what i would be walking

into and to get some idea of how to budget for it. In my mind why

even begin the process if you can't afford it! The secretary had the

nerve to tell me that by my asking the question of costs it wasn't a

very good way to start a relationship with the doctor.I just told

her I am a very responsible person and I am not going to sign up for

something I can't afford to finish because I am that responsible. I

told her that she needs to be more forthright. Now, whether this was

this particular secretary or whether this is the way this office runs

I am not sure. I want the best one out there to prove causation and

I don't want to be scammed in the process which is what it felt like.

I am hoping this was just a case of a secretary not handling things

very well but I don't know.

Obviously specialists and expert witnesses etc cost and gone are the

days when a Doctor will simply stand up for you on principle alone.

This has become quite a profession and one gets paid for it. Thats

fine. I just want the best and the most honest and fothright.

Does anyone have any suggestions even if perhaps it is another

toxicologist knowing that I will most likely be going to court.

Hi Beez, I would check out Dr. Shoemaker. I just read his book. Many

on this site have seen him. Sounds like a very compassionate doctor.

He is in land. chronicneurotoxins.com He also has proved

causation, etc. I wish I had gone to him.

I'm going tomorrow, so I'll let you know...the cover letter and survey

that they want you to fill out before you get there indicates that the

office visit is $600. The only insurance plan that he accepts

officially is MVP Selectcare, which is what I have (luck of the draw).

The visit will last an hour and a half and include some blood work, a

physical exam, review of your health history and review of any

previous blood tests or chest x-rays that you bring with you from the

other doctors that you visited (that were clueless...)

lawsuit you may not want to run it through your insurance right

Where is Dr Johanning located? I hear he only tests and does not

treat. Is that true? Of course testing sometimes is so hard to get.

Well - I was wrong about one part of my initial write-up below, he

does not do any blood work. I have to go to a nearby hospital with

the two sheets that he gave me for tests that get sent out to

specific labs that he uses. It has to be done early in the week,

(so I'm going on Monday) so the samples make it to the labs without

a weekend in between.

My overall assessment of the visit was positive. He is one of the

pioneers in the field and was one of the first to make the

connection to mycotoxins and health. He does not follow

the " Shoemaker Protocol " (which seems to be established and

repeatable) so it will be interesting to see what he comes up with

to readjust my immune system, which is getting a total whacking from

the mycotoxins.

I will let you know in a few weeks when I see him again after my

test results come back...

Interested in your results - Were you happy with what he

recommended? Was he able to get you on a treatment program that you

improved on, or was it, " well, avoid any spores in the enviroment

and have a nice life " ?

Thanks, - I see him later this month and just don't want to waste

any more time when I could be seeing doctor shoemaker!
