Guest guest
<< What do you think you could do to replicate the child in the hospital, free of autism, in the real world??? Kara >> Well Kara, there's a question I hope you learn the answer to. Maybe you could steal me an IV pole and a couple of IV bags??You would be amazed at how many folks on the aut lists have had similar experiences. So far suggestions have been (1) a few days without food means a few days without allergens thus the improvement (2) the electrolyte imbalance is under control (3) the blood sugar is kept steady (4) Fasting puts the body in a state of ketosis which has a calming effect (theory behind ketogenic diet) and my theory for (5) the stomach ceased to be irritated~ possibly what happens with a secretin reaction. This is not uncommon at all but none of us knows how to replicate the situation. Any ideas? Sherry
Guest guest
Hi Sherry, I have 3 children, Miles 14, Brook 11 and Genevieve 4 yrs. We live in Orinda in the San Francisco Bay Area. Brook has DS/ASD and we have gone through some very rough times with him too. He also has a seizures and had GI reflux. He had a lot of self-injurious behaviors when he was younger, which have now mostly all disappeared thanks to behavior therapy and medical care. Summers can be really hard on us when Brook is not in school. It used to really just about break me when he was younger. He really needs his routine and structure. He goes stir crazy at home. The last 2 years have been the best we have had. It's hard to know why, but we did take him swimming a lot which he truly loves. For the most part, things have become easier as Brook has gotten older, although I know that is not true for many people. Brook seems to have mellowed out and doesn't get so frustrated as he did before. I hope it continues for us and that things improve for you too. Tell us more about your family and what is going on with . Maybe we can help with some ideas and experiences that we can share. Hope to hear from you soon.
