yes, but, that is a non sequitur.....we're feeding the KT culture, not human

DNA.

I wouldn't recommend it except as an experiment, since, by definition, it won't

be KT, and other ingredients could be damaging or fatal to the culture. This is

an organism that lives in tea, not an artificially created junk-drink.

I would suggest to experiment with degassed, diluted

coca-cola because it contains phosphoric acid which is

an important component for the synthesis of DNA.

Thank You

Hiya! You do have a 'baby', called 'wider and thinner'! ;-)

The original thicker part of the culture should still be visible underneath

the new culture forming across the top.

A culture for fermenting should NOT be kept in the fridge, as the coldness

puts the yeasts and bacteria microflora into hibernation and slows the

brewing process considerably for a while.

You seem to have got off lightly, as your culture IS growing well across

the top. As your temperatures are so warm, the brewing process should

go speedily. 7 brewing days is about the average to arrive at a good

tasting Kombucha Tonic with the healthgiving acids well developed.

You might find, that after your slower first brewing, your brew might be

ready in 5 days already.

Be sure to weed out the yeast from the bottom of the brewing container

regularly, or the yeast side will get too strong, sour the brew

unpleasantly and hinder the formation of a good scoby (which the

bacteria build!).

A very helpful site for troubleshooting I recommend is:

Wishing you good success with your Kombucha career,

Margret:-) UK

If ur scoby is getting wider, that is th new scoby forming. The original will

not grow, tho th new may be attached to it. As u started with a small amount of

starter and it was refrigerated, it may take awhile. Th scoby should not be

stored in th fridge but in very sour tea at room temp. Tell us more about how

much tea, sugar, starter you used so we can help u further. As with most anxious

mom's, time and patience will be rewarded.

No " baby "

I was given a culture 2 weeks ago and no " baby " has formed. The pancake has

spread out to meet the width of my container - so it has gotten wider and

thinner - that's it! I'm in Hawaii - so it's always around 78 degrees, I have

it in a dark closet. I'm not sure why it's not growing. My friend had it in her

fridge and gave it to me w/ a little tea - not as much as she would have liked.

I really want this tea....!
