Guest guest Posted March 5, 2000 Report Share Posted March 5, 2000 Cyndy, There are a couple factors. First, the baby may have gotten the 'new' hep b vaccine that does not have thimerosal in it. Unfortunately, no one I know of has the new vaccine package insert and can not get their hands on it. You need to find out which hep b vaccine the baby got, AND get a vaccine package insert. It lists all the side effects. I looked on my package insert from when my daughter had a severe reaction after receiving the vaccine at 16 hours old. It does not list seizures as far as I can tell...but, if they are testing for meningitis then they think it might be something like a virus/bacteria. And guess what is in a vaccine? Also, if the baby is white and female the likelihood that there is a reaction is very high. According to the Hep B hearing held on May 18, 1999 ALL the Hep b reactions reported have been in whites and 70% have been in females. Your best bet at this point, due to the lack of information available about the new vaccine, is to contact the National Vaccine Information Center. Their number is 703-938-0342 or 703-938-3783. They are overloaded so push to speak with someone knowledgeable. I think they recently added a nurse who can field calls about potential side effects who actually is knowledgeable about them and doesn't give the 'party' line. I know that Barbara Fisher, one of the founders, is on the ACIP (Immunization Practice committee) and she may happen to have one of the new vaccine package inserts. Like I said insist on talkin with someone and make sure to convey the SERIOUSNESS of this matter and the necessity to quick information. They may also have other contacts/doctors to try. I know the part of passing out was what happened with my daughter. She screamed and cried for 12 hours straight. She would crunch up and then arch her back which was terrifying to watch when she couldn't even hold her head up. She experienced insomnia, irritability and agitation. She would cry/scream/cramp/arch/pass out and then she would startle awake within a few moments and start again not always in the same order...but the pass out part sounds familiar. Finally, you may want to contact Belkin. His daughter died in the fall of 1998 after just one hep b vaccine. He heads up the Hep B vaccine area of the NVIC and he is in NY. His email is: belkin@... He is very knowledgeable about the Hep B vaccine as he has done an incredible amount of research. He may also be able to help. Make sure to mark your message as urgent priority. Best wishes for your friend and her baby. I will make sure to keep her in our prayers. It is terrifying to go through this with a baby who can not even talk to tell you what they feel. After $30,000 worth of tests/bills finding nothing, the grandmother told me that in the birth process some of the vertebraes got messed up. Her chiropractor said it happens all the time in births, and he could have done an adjustment for $45 to fix it. I'm so sad that the baby had to go through all those unnecessary tests, especially the spinal tap. They also gave the baby antibiotics even though there was no reason for them. B later on in life because of the use of vaccine guns on men lined up to receive vaccinations. Apparently the gun is used on all the persons. Anyone know anything about this?
