Guest guest
Hello Sue, Standing x-rays will show the most accurate degree of the curvature. And yes, there is a great possibility that if standing x-rays were taken from the beginning, the curve would have been measured at a higher degree (gravity). Although, they may not have been able to do standing films due to s age at the time. Was he standing, walking, yet? What Shriners do you go to? What doc? I would suggest casting immediately. Has an RVAD been taken of ? This is a Rib Vertebral Angle Degree measurement? This measuring technique should tell if the curve is progressive or not...Although, it sounds like has a progressive curve. Have you taken a look at the entire web site? I would like to send you a video on the benefits of early treatment with serial corrective plaster casts. I will send it for free with other pertinent info. If you find this is something that may benefit your you can pay my org $17.50..If not, please send back so I can circulate the video to other moms. If this sounds good to you..e-mail me privately with your address and I will get it sent immediately. A child grows most their first 2 yrs of life...the childs curve will also grow at the same rate that the child is growing...Therefore, this "wait and see," approach to the treatment of infantile scoliosis must change. Lets NOT see how big the curve will get before we apply a cast. Lets apply the cast immediately so we can harness the curve in a cast, and use childs growth to alter the direction of the curve. Plaster casts can maintain the altered direction of growth and guide the spine to grow straight... You'll understand what I am talking about once you see the video.. Dr. Mehta has dedicated her lifes work to the treatment of infantile scoliosis, and has successfully straightened the spines of far over 100 infants/young children..She has followed their progress for over 10 years and they remain straight.. let me know talk soon
Guest guest
Hi Sue, is right! Get the video, it was very educational and it also made me feel alot better about the results of casting a small child. is 6 months and is going into a cast on Jan. 22nd. I actually think he may be the youngest here to be treated for Scoliosis. As far as Day care is concerned where did you hear that? I cannot imagine that you could not send your child to daycare because of a plaster cast. Children break arms and legs everyday and go to school or daycare. hmmm...........if that is true that is EXTREMELY disturbing! had a 50 degree cobb angle 2 months ago and his RVAD was 50. I know he has progressed more because when I stand him up he looks SO deformed to me. Thanks to the Dr.'s I might add for wanting to just wait and see. It was I that finally put my foot down and demanded a cast for my baby after watching 's video. Contact Shriners and find out what his RVAD is and let us all know. Where is your Shriners? Who is you Dr.? Crista

Guest guest
No, I grew up in and still live in Rhode Island. We chose Springfield because it was the closest facility of Shriner's. >From: " Gail M. Guest guest
When we went to Shriner's in November Dr. Masso seemed shocked that no one had ordered a MRI as of yet. He was very thorough with our son and I have hopes will get better care with Shriner's. I went to New England Tech which is up the road from and Wales, right? >From: " Gail M. Guest guest
hi susan, my son lucas is a little over 2 now but was found to have infantile scoliosis at 18 mo. i live north of boston and was referred to children's hospital in boston. we did end up going for a second opinion at shriner's in springfield with dr. masso and a third opinion elsewhere. dr. masso concurred with the treatment that lucas was getting at children's (although at the time he was only parttime wearing a boston/tlso brace during naps and night) without any additional suggestions. needless to say, i was pretty disappointed in taking the time out to get " your treatment is excellent " . in addition, i questioned him about serial plaster casting, and he was not at all receptive to the idea. i don't want to get you down, but i don't think that this particular shriners is pro-casting. from my research and from the posts here, the closest ortho that will cast is dr. moskovitch in nyc (http://www.hjdspine.org/hospitals/hjd/hjdspine/moskovich.htm) although tawney's ortho said he would recommend an ortho at tufts (i believe) that he was friends with that might cast. i didn't press for a name at that time. anyway, i just wanted to let you know that if you are gung ho on casting that you might have to do some serious convincing to get it done in springfield. it can be done, i heard, from other moms here on the board. background post about lucas (if you haven't seen it): infantile scoliosis treatment/message/39 deshea > When we went to Shriner's in November Dr. Masso seemed shocked that no one > had ordered a MRI as of yet.
