Guest guest
Hi Audrey! Sorry, this list is so busy i just now found this while looking more carefully i just noticed this... Remember, we're not talking about the fruit which is wholesome (to most, but not necessarily for those w/ exceptionally sensitive digestive systems, ESP! those w/ uncers). I do believe the topic was the leaves, and appearently those of an entirely different plant . The latex from any part of the Papaya plant, the stem, leaves, and unripe fruit, as well as decoction of the seeds are definately abortifacient when taken internally, and it is also corrosive to the skin. this latex is an old fashioned folk remedy in many tropical countries for removing (burning away) warts, as it will literally dissolve tissues. that's why the active ingredient is used as commercial meat tenderizer (Papain) And, as horrible as it sounds, the chemical is also often (legally?) injected into cattle about half an hour before they're slaughtered to make the meat especially tender. It must be excrucuating to have ones muscles partially dissolved while one is still living! Poor creatures! Just thought i oughtta clear that up blessings mark Re: Paw paw and Kombucha Wow! I'm confused. I live in Hawaii and we eat the papaya several times a week which most people here do. I have never heard that it could cause miscarriage. People here have strong healthy babies for the most part. The papaya is considered one of our most healthy fruits.
Guest guest
Hi Audrey! well then, you must be living in So. Florida, Hawaii, or some other nearly tropical area as the tree is really tropical, being native to Tahiti and all. Does it bear fruit often? just curious! blessings mark Re: Paw paw and Kombucha We have a Noni tree and I have fermented my own Noni Juice. It is a most violent smelling product. I did not notice any great improvement in my health, but I am very healthy at age 79 so I just did not bother with it any more. It certainly has a reputation of being a great help for many people Brewing kombucha is lots more fun 'cause it tastes so good :>)) Audrey
Guest guest
Thanks for your response Mark. We have missed you and your wealth of info and your sense of humor. I am not much of a botanist but the Noni tree seems to produce all year round. I assume that you are familiar with the appearance of the fruit. It is a lumpy critter. About as ugly as the brew tastes.:>Audrey
Guest guest
Thanks again Mark. I have not heard of anyone using papaya leaves for anything. But I do love to eat the fruit
