Hey ,

Okay....I do agree about the brace. You cannot brace an infant and EVERY Dr. will tell you that. (Most at least) It is a waste of time because they cannot fit the infant with the brace. Also, the baby will just suffer. You can brace toddlers, just not infants. is 100% right. You need more opinions. So...what I would do is gather up all the x-rays and take them to another Dr. and ask him to measure the cobb and RVAD. That way you have 2 opinions and you know what you are dealing with. You have a very good chance of having Nates Scoliosis correct itself with an RVAD of 7. Dr. Moskovich who casts infants in NYC doesn't cast unless it is over 20 and I don't know what he would say about the RVAD only at 7. My opinion is wait and see. I never thought I would say that!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, I hope I didn't offend anyone. I would wait and see if Nate was . had a RVAD of 50, that is HUGE and a cobb angle of 50 2 months ago. So..I have to do something.

I wouldn't wait until April to have Nate rechecked. I would wait 2 months since his last x-ray. I would NOT go to another Dr. in the same office that will just piss people off. I would go to another Childrens Hospital. What about The Cleveland Clinic? Isn't that an orthopedic place? I don't mean to sound pushy, this is just my opinion.

One more thing about the x-rays...My good friend runs Newport Beach Imaging in Newport beach, Ca.(where I live) > I spoke to him about the radiation that our kids get from all the x-rays and we need not worry. The x-ray machines these days are so safe, he said our kids are exposed to more radiation being oudoors on a sunny summer day. Don't worry about that!!

I was a flight Attendant for 13 years so I have been to Dayton, just wasn't sure where it was in relation to Cleveland or Erie.

Crista,

I dont think your being pushy at all. I appreciate your opinion, and

advice. I am definately extatic that his RVA is just 7. I am going to

check out the Childrens in Cincy. They are TONS closer than Cleveland

(about 3 hours closer) and Ive heard good things. I believe they even

cast there. Ill let you know. Thank you for your opinion!! If I didnt

want it I wouldnt have asked for it!! ;) Sometimes even negative

words can have a positive impact :) I think you are right about the 2

month thing. 4 just seems like an eternity. Though I dont want him x-

rayed too often.... lots to think about....

If they call cincinnati, get in with Dr. Crawford ('s ortho) at Children's. http://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/svc/dept-div/orthopedic/fs/head/alvin-crawford.htm He is TOPS in the field of Pediatric Orthopedics. So much so that he is know as "St. Crawford" to alot of dr's and nurses. I will tell you that he does have a very matter of fact, brusque, sometimes horrible "bedside manner" when it comes to talking with parents. I tell you this so you will be prepared. I heard it from so many people that I was suprised because I found him to be quite matter of fact, but also he wanted the parents to understand what was going on.

I am in the Fairfield/Hamilton area (about 45 mins south of you) so let me know if you come to town.

Well... I talked to Nates ortho yesturday to clarify some things. He has a thoractic curve from T2 to T11. Which is basically his entire midsection. Even though his Cobb is over 15 they will not brace or cast unless he is over 35 AND over 3 years old. "Bracing an infant is unrealistic and pointless" (Isnt that a great attitude!!) I did call my pediatrician and he recommended two other doctors in the same office (like that will help) He mentioned that they are the ONLY pediatric spine specialists within the area. He is going to call a place he knows of in Cinncinnati (I can never spell that right!!) and get back to me on Monday. If he cant figure something out, then I will. My husband has now flipped and decided since his RVA is 7 that we should just "wait it out" til April. Thats when his next appointment is. My problem is that (God forbid) Nate progesses, do I really want to waste my time at a doctor who has blatently stated he wont treat him even if he progresses???? I think we should, at the VERY LEAST, find another doctor to take him to... in April... that we KNOW will treat him if (God forbid) he progresses. Id love for him to be seen sooner to get a second opinion, but I think I can handle waiting for a little while. His RVA is only 7 and his Cobb isnt over 20 YET. ..... What do you think??????

Thanks Gail!! I didnt realize you lived so close!! :) Ill look into

the doctor you mentioned. They called yesturday. His appointment is

on Jan 22nd. Its with Dr Tamai?? Do you know him/her? I did talk to a

nurse yesturday to ask questions and she told me " she wasnt a " spine

nurse " so she couldnt answer any of my questions. Did they check

s RVAD there?? The ortho up here didnt. (well he didnt want to

til I made him.)
