Guest guest
Hi there. I am on another group with and she asked me to share my story about my son. Reese is 2 1/2 now and has had excellent results with the TSLO brace in the last year. We 1st saw his curve at 6 mos old. They told us since there was no actual cause found in the xrays or MRI that it was postural infantile scolosis. He had a 95% chance of " growing out of it. " He didn't. They wanted to put him in a cast. We didn't. So we went for a 2ed opinion and the next dr said it wouldn't make a difference with a brace or cast, so we went with the brace, and the 2ed dr. I have pix on the other group " scolosis in children " He started the brace in Oct 2002 at a 45 degree curve. They told us we would HAVE to have surgery and we would talk about that at a 47 degree curve. We would use the brace to hold off till age 8 if possible because he would be " short torso-ed " after the operation and he would be bigger then. Anyway, after 6 mos, he was at 27 degrees and now another 6 mos (in Nov) he was at 22 degrees. So they say there is a 5 degree room for error (either way???!?!?!?) and he is " holding steady " at 20 degrees. Sooooooo, I am thinking yippeeeee! best case senerio he does NOT need surgery, like I said, horay!!!! but I figured he would be in the brace till full grown, what, age 18??!?!?!?!!? No even better...they are taking him out of the brace for 6 mos!! Thank God!!! The drs are stumped and we are rejoicing! BTW I must be sadistic to the poor child because I didn't get the brace off right now but elected to have it off in the summer, instead of trying to put it back on in the summer. We will be more into potty training then since his b-day is April 1st An interesting side note, he curves to the right, which they say is uncommon but there is a new person on our other list who said the same of her child...huh? thanks for reading Take Care in Michigan Mom to Cheyenne age 6 1/2 and Reese age 2 1/
