Guest guest
Melody, ask questions. Check the Gardens Alive catalog to see if there is an 800 number and call or e-mail them. Ask the weight of the seeds in US pounds or ounces. So many catalogs list in grams that it is hard to compare. 33,000 seeds sounds like a lot, but what if they are so tiny that that is only 1/4 of a pound. I am now totally confused about Lentil Sprouts Date: Sun, 02 Aug 2009 01:28:07 -0000 Hi everybody. I shall explain my confusion. I have, in the past, sprouted lentils. I bought the package of Goya lentils, I soaked, they sprouted, they got the little tail, etc. etc. Actually, I have some sitting inside my refrigerator right now. So why am I confused? Because today I received a catalogue in the mail from Gardens Alive. It had a $25.00 gift coupon and if the order was less than $25.00 the whole order was free. So I'm glancing through the catalogue and I get to the sprout page. They don't carry a lot of sprouts, but they have Alfalfa, mung beans (oh I have a question about that too, but I'll do it after I talk about the lentil sprouts). So on 66 of the Catalogue, it says: " ORGANIC SMALL CRIMSON LENTIL SPROUTS " $4.95 PER PACKET. Approx. 33,000 seeds per packet. 33,000 seeds IN A PACKET OF LENTILS??? In all my days of buying Goya lentils, I have NEVER PURCHASED ANY PACKAGE OF GOYA LENTILS AND IT HAD 33,000 SEEDS. So (and you can all stop laughing now), is there a difference between the lentils I get in the store, and these Organic Small Crimson Lentil sprouts. In the product description, it says: " Beautiful Salmon Color " ????????????????????????? And I found it online at their website: Here's the link: http://www.gardensalive.com/product.asp?pn=3063 Now here's my next question. On page 67 it has Organic mung bean sprouts 3,800 seeds per packet. I have bought mung beans from the Asian market and there is no way there are 3,800 seeds inthe pack that I get. And how big is a packet of mung beans anyway, THAT IT CAN HOLD 3,800 seeds per packet? See my confusion? Oh I can believe this about the mung beans but LENTILS, 33,000 seeds of lentils?? No way lol Melody -- An Excellent Credit Score is 750 See Yours in Just 2 Easy Steps! at Freecreditreport.com
Guest guest
Hi EW: I just went to my order status online, and here is what it says: " SPROUTS ORGANIC SMALL CRIMSONûLENTILS 4 OZ " Delivery Estimate: 08/11/09 - 08/15/09 So we know it's 4 oz. Now, can 4 oz of Small crimson lentils, well can it amount to 33,000 seeds? And can you clarify if these lentils seeds are the same as the Goya lentils that I buy in the store? I have no idea if there are different lentil things being sold. And what about the crimson color? See why I'm so confused. I can't wait to get these to see what they actually look like. I'll make a video and put it on youtube (before I sprout them I mean) Melody
Guest guest
Hi Melody, I buy red lentils in the store. They are probably the same thing as crimson lentils and they do look like the ones on this page, tiny and pink. http://www.purcellmountainfarms.com/Petite%20Crimson%20Lentils.htm Also, check out the Wikipedia page on lentils http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lentil And this informative one http://www.foodsubs.com/Lentils.html I suspect that Goya lentils are a brand name you found them under, maybe the store only carries one kind they sell, the red ones. Here is one of the pages the name pulled up http://www.goya.com/english/products/product.html?prodCatID=1 & prodSubCatID=2 I hope that helps some. Guest guest
Melody, Sproutpeople offers 7 different lentils, crimson being one of them. I going to say the the number 33,000 is probably a misprint. I think that you find that it should be 330. As long as you're getting them free, go for it. Lets us all know what the truth is. I was just thinking, I have a #1 bag of tiny broccoli seeds and I'll bet that there is not 33,000 seeds it the bag. ew Re: I am now totally confused about Lentil Sprouts Date: Sun, 02 Aug 2009 15:33:05 -0000 Hi EW: I just went to my order status online, and here is what it says: " SPROUTS ORGANIC SMALL CRIMSONûLENTILS 4 OZ " Delivery Estimate: 08/11/09 - 08/15/09 So we know it's 4 oz. Guest guest
EW: I just went there and looked at their broccoli sprout seeds. (I had called them up about this last year just to make sure the size of the packet). the lady said " 4 oz " Look at the description of the amount of seeds. http://www.gardensalive.com/product.asp?pn=3145 I'll be sure and let you know what my order looks like when I get it. Oh, I also got the liquid kelp. I mean, it was free so why not. It comes in a spray bottle. I want to add it to my soak water. So what do I do, get a little eye dropper and put two or three drops in the soak water? Thanks much for any info. Guest guest
Hi : Thanks for all the cool links on the lentils. What confused me is the photos of the lentil sprouts on the Gardens Alive website and in their catalogue. They show the sprouts looking like SPROUTS, like my fenugreek, or my radish. Lentil sprouts (well, none that I've sprouted), well they don't look like those. They just have a little tail. Maybe if you sprouted them for 2 weeks, they might look like regular sprouts but who does this? I am in LENTIL CONFUSION AT THE MOMENT. As soon as I get my order of the crimson lentils (which said 33,000 seeds), believe me, I'll make a video and post it here. Melody

LOL Okay, they're seriously small and I got seriously bored after counting 600 of them. So I went back and re-weighed and those 600 lentils were 8 grams. 4 ounces = 113.398093 grams 113.398093 / 8 = 14.174762 14.174762 * 600 lentils = 8504.86 So, by my rough count and math there are about 8505 red lentils in four ounces. Give or take a lentil. Sparrow
Guest guest
All I can say is the red/orange lentils are very small. They will fit thru my large sprouting screen. They are also bad about splitting and do not have as good of a sprout rate. I purchase my red/orange lentils at the Whole foods Market. Could not even guess at how many to an ounce. Guest guest
You're welcome Melody, The only sprouting of lentils I do right now are those in the bean mixes from . I like them but are finding them so high in carbs that I am cutting back on how many I do at a time. I figure if it's a lentil it should be good and just go with it. Guest guest
, the reason the lentils that you buy at Whole Foods do not have a good sprout rate is that they are not sprouting seeds. Guest guest
I would agree with that but the only ones Ihave had trouble getting to sprout is the red/orange ones and yes a lot of them are split in half. I bought regular green lentils and either black or blue and they sprouted fine. I recently at a discount grocery store bought some bags of Organic green lentils. They sprout just fine. I believe I read on Sproutpeople.com that the red/orange maybe called crimson lentils do not have as good of a sprouting rate becuase in the process of removing the " skin " can not remember what it is called, many of the lentils split in half. Guest guest
AHA!!!! I now have learned something new!!! There are different kinds of lentils. The lentils seeds(which I am getting from Gardens Alive) are for sprouting, and the lentils I got from Goya (which I also sprouted), are not for sprouting, BUT FOR COOKING. So presently, I am awaiting a little packet filled with 33,000 tiny microscopic seeds of crimson lentils (which have absolutely nothing to do with the Goya lentils), And when I sprout these 33,000 tiny microscopic seeds, THEN AFTER THEY SPROUT, THEY WILL LOOK LIKE MY RADISH OR BROCCOLI SPROUTS?? Did I get this right? Because if they DON'T LOOK LIKE GOYA LENTILS, (which grow a little tail when sprouted), then these 33,000 tiny microscopic seeds should sprout and grow green leaves (like my other sprouting seeds). Guest guest
Yes, Goya is a BIG BRAND. They make everything. including a very very tasty extra virgin olive oil. You put a splash of their oil on a sprout salad and you go to heaven. lol I AM SO HAPPY THAT I NOW UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LENTIL SEEDS, AND LENTIL SPROUTS AND PLAIN OLD LENTILS. If you're getting tails on your Goya Lentils, you can get leaves. Just let them sprout a few days longer. Try it and see if you like them that way. I've eaten them both ways and like them both ways. Guest guest
Sparrow: I'm hesitant to sprout more lentils (like the Goya), because I find them very hard to digest. I have taken beano, but they still give me gas. I only hope the 33,000 seeds that I'm supposed to be getting, well, I hope they are more like microgreens (when they sprout), and not like actual lentils. We shall see!!! I shall update when this miracle packet arrives. Melody
