Which one > were you talking about? I was talking about it, too. It was one of the cookbooks my mother had when I was growing up and I got a copy for a wedding present. The one I had (multiple times over the years) was the original Laurel's Kitchen. I'm not sure if the very first one is even still in print or not. *Looks it up on Amazon* Here's the one I had: http://tinyurl.com/lnjmws It does appear to be out of print. I'm not sure how similar " The New Laurel's Kitchen " is to the original but I would feel safe in saying that it's likely as excellent as the original. One reason I drifted away from Laurel's Kitchen was the very heavy dependence on dairy. It was written back in the days when folks still believed it was very difficult to get enough protein on a vegetarian diet. Another cookbook my mother had when I was growing up that I highly recommend if you can find a copy is " The Vegetarian Epicure. " *looks on Amazon* It, too, appears to have been re-done since the Seventies and is now called " The New Vegetarian Epicure. " It's got some marvellous soup recipes in it. I was still making the garbanzo bean rosemary soup from it as recently as a year ago. Good stuff. Sparrow
Guest guest
That is the one I have, too. One of the original 3 women is not in the new one, it's a guy with two gals. At least, the last time I looked at one several years ago. As I recall, he seems to have brought some technical stuff to the mix. I think I remember charts and stuff in the newer one (at the time)? While I will likely never get rid of it, I no longer use it. I think the only thing I currently occasionally make from it is the chapathis...and that is from memory- not from the book. I haven't opened it in many years now. I am considering making yeast bread again- having difficulty finding good whole bread around here. So, I might end up cracking it out again- as I don't trust I will remember it correctly. Been a long time, now, for that. :~) Thia On Sat, Jul 11, 2009 at 10:36 PM, Sparrow R <sparrowrose@...>wrote: > > > Here's the one I had: > http://tinyurl.com/lnjmws > > It does appear to be out of print. Guest guest
I also have this one, on just bread: http://tinyurl.com/md6kxk And this one is what I gave my son- all the recipes of the original, but without the miscellaneous info, and chatty fluff: http://tinyurl.com/my37jt And this one I saw several years ago, it seemed much like the original, except one author changed, and some charts and technical info was included. I would think it would be worthy: http://tinyurl.com/l8jkhs :~) Thia On Sun, Jul 12, 2009 at 1:17 AM, Thia (aka: pixx) <pixxley@...> wrote: > That is the one I have, too.
