He talks about body balance, such as a chiropractor or PT would notice. He does state in the last paragraph that ph Pilates, the developer, didn't believe in weight training because he thought it made people musclebound. But the author feels that the two compliment one another. Since this article appeared in MILO, it got my attention. Any comments? If you think it's worth doing, then how does one go about finding a decent instructor?> *** There are many serious trainers who have found that almost any method under the sun has been of some value in changing their lives, even sitting still and contemplating their navels without playing around on Pilates " Reformers " , " Cadillacs " or " Magic Circles " . Virtually every training methods has a time and place for its application, but far too many folk have turned yet another training system into a fitness cult. Pilates has never been proved scientifically or clinically to be superior to any other forms of fitness or health training. It certainly offers some of the same benefits that other fitness methods offer, but in no way is it as unique as its very commercialised marketeers claim. They constantly push the idea that Pilates training makes the muscles flat and long, but fail to realise what nonsense that this statement implies. This topic has been discussed at length during previous discussions on the Supertraining group. Go back to the " Messages " page, then enter the word " Pilates " in the 'Archives' search box at the top right hand corner of the page and you will find dozens of letters on this topic. Pay special attention to letter numbers 7, 169, 272 and 448. Here are also two of my Pilates articles which appear on these different websites: <http://www.worldfitness.org/exer0022.html> <http://www.stumptuous.com/siffonpilates.html> It would be a good idea if the MILO readership became aware of some of the discussions which we have had on this topic. Maybe then we would have some more sense and less nonsense and hype. Dr Mel C Siff Denver, USA mcsiff@...
