Guest guest
Hi all, We (my 4 dd's and I) went to our county's 4H Quality Assurance and Livestock Ethics Training - Level 1 that is required by the state NEXT year (though our county requires it NOW).  It is mostly about common sense stuff (like clean drinking water,  properly vented buildings) and morals (such as " Thou shalt not bear false witness " ).  However, they did mention NAIS.  The trainer said at first that it will be required NEXT year.  I pressed him on it and he backed off a little bit and said MAYBE next year.  I asked why.  His answer?  " To beat the rush " .  So there's a rush - they asked for it.  He also said that " they " (and I think " they " here is the state, not 4-H) will fine you if you wait till it's required before you sign up.  " They " want you to do it NOW, while it's " voluntary " .  That doesn't sound very voluntary to me.  I handed out copies of an article to everyone there, including the trainers.  The article was " NAIS to deal with BSE not a-OK " by Henry Lamb publlished by WND on Saturday. The trainer told of something that happened to him several years ago which I think makes our point very well.  He said that he and his wife made a ham for dinner one day.  It smelled good, it tasted good....until they got to the middle of it where there was an abscess - it was rotten inside and it stunk.  Would this have been prevented by NAIS?  I don't think so!  How would anyone have known?  It looked good on the outside.  The only thing that could have prevented it is testing - the very thing the USDA will not let you do!  All NAIS will do is tell you who to blame.  That meal for that trainer and his family was ruined.  Knowing who to blame will not save that meal. One of  the other trainerrs asked isn't NAIS supposed to help track where disease is coming from?  My response was " But how will that help?  That is after the fact "  They say you'll know within 48 hours where disease is coming from.  I doubt it.  NOTHING in government works that fast.  How will they have time to do any of that when they'll be busy with the many thousands of reports filed everyday telling who moved what animal where and when and why. I also pointed out that when 4-H requires NAIS-type animal ID we - my children - will NOT be bringing ANY animals to the fair.  The trainer said they are expecting some of that.  I got the idea that they don't really care. that's my thoughts on last night, , the one in purple, in Oster, MN Isaiah 26:3 NAIS is government contol of private property.  Government control of private property is fascism.  NAIS - Just Say No PS  FYI - I'm sending this post to several of the groups I am on.
