Guest guest
Just had to mention that the other day I watched this DVD (Soylent Green) with my oldest daughter. I wanted her to read the book, but the library only had the DVD, not the book. (Since when do libraries purchase movies instead of books?) Anyway, it made quite an impression on her. Pretty good, considering it was made in the 70's, I think. For those that are not familiar with the story, it takes place in New York City in the year 2020 or so. Global warming has taken it's toll on the environment and accordingly. the food supply. Pretty much all there is to eat are these colorful soy crackers made by the Soylent Company that are rationed on the streets while the riot control observes. They are promoting a new product called Soylent Green that they claim is made from plankton. But then some people discover that the oceans are dead. So what is the secret ingredient in Soylent Green??? This is what I call a horror movie! The book scared me enough as a kid to be formative in my views about food and the environment. A recommended read/ watch... Kathy
Guest guest
Kathy, I thought our library didn't have the book either but I was looking under " Soylent Green " and further down the listing it says this movie is based on the novel " Make room! Make room! " by Harry on. Just thought I'd pass that on, although my library still didn't have the book when I looked under the right title for it. <sigh> -Laurie
