liver cleanser and dairy

I've been reading a book about liver cleansing. The author says to

stay away from dairy and red meat. How does that fit in light of NT

eating? Is dairy hard on the liver, or just processed dairy?

Kristi, don't forget that CLEANSING and EATING are two different things. When

undertaking

a cleansing, one traditionally eats a high fiber, low fat, low protein diet,

along with lots of

liquids, fiber, and other cleansing materials.

Additionally,

1) Many books on nutrition and cleansing have an anti-meat, anti-dairy bias

2) Everyone is different so beware of " one size fits all " diet plans

3) Meat and heavy dairy do move through the colon more slowly than most

vegetarian

items

4) Most people don't eat enough vegetables, whole fruits, greens and fiber

5) Every person needs to track how meat and dairy digests for them.

6) Be sure to Eat With the Seasons. Liquid milk is better for spring and summer

and people

tend to be better off eating less heavy food in the summer.

I've done long cleansings and short ones, I've done harsh ones and easy ones.

I've always

felt better doing them in the Spring and Fall, plus it seems like too many

people eat wrong

for years and then try to correct it with a long, harsh fast and cleansing. I

don't think that's

a very sound way to get healthy. The exception would be cancer or other massive

illness

that requires the harshness and speed. It's better to cleanse daily in some way,

do the

occasional short fast, and then add a couple of zingers in the fall and spring.

I think the reason I had GALLSTONE problems in the past were multiple:

#1 was emotions. I was going through a period where I let my anger get out of

control (I

was fighting the government and was overwhelmed with that). This is a constant

challenge

for me! Anger is always a choice and there is always a metabolic consequence to

any

emotional imbalance.

#2 I had gotten a bit over my ideal weight. Never a good thing!

#3 I had gotten lax about eating trans fats, like french fries, and fried food.

Never again!

#4 I had fallen off of my daily exercies regieme. Never again!

#5 I may have exacerbated the condition by doing fasts that were too sporadic

and way

too harsh.

Thanks for bringing up this important concept,

Will Winter

Just wanted to add my own opinion about cleanses. Althoug cleanses

sound like a good investment, it does carry some disdvantages as

well, depending on the intensity, and prior body condition. I would

be very careful. The body carries a lot of innate wisdom and in most

cases would be able to rely on its own cleansing abilities as long as

a proper diet is followed (along with other lifestyle changes). I

suggest looking into metabolically typed diets (Wolcott for example).

I like Susun Weed's take on cleanses and fasting. She points out that

the kidneys for example, renew their cells completely in a six-week

(or maybe 8) period. So if a diet that sustains your specific bodily

requirements is followed (with an emphasis on certain

foods/herbs/whole food supplements that feed the kidneys) to allow

the body to create healthy new kidney cells, no externally induced

detoxification is needed. She also points out that some people get

quite ill from cleanses, and for a few, the results can be fatal

(most likely in cases of extreme adverese conditions--I'm not trying

to put fear into anyone!).

That's funny that you bring this up. I had done an herbal based

colon and liver cleanse in May (my first one). It was a 2 week

cleanse and I actually only did one week. About a week later I got

appendicitis and had to have surgery to remove my appendix. I do not

know if the two were related, but I couldn't help thinking about the

" coincidence " .

That sounds like no fun. It's so hard to *know* whether things are

directly related or not. But usually your body just sort of knows

anyways. The body is a whole, so of course, the two incidents are

somehow related.
