I realize that many on the list are coaches, researchers, etc. and

require peer reviewed studies in their work, if for nothing else, to

back themselves up. I realize that oftentimes the research comes

first, but then the true test of it is when folks like me put it to

use in the real world. I've found that I've gotten a lot of very

good information from a myriad of sources. A little bit from Mel, a

little from Chek, a little from Pavel, more from Stuart

Mc, Louie , Staley, and yes, from writers in

the glossies such as Bill Starr, Randy Strossen, ,

Gundill, etc. Not everything any of these people says will

necessarily work for everyone's situation or at a particular time in

their training life. But usually you can glean something and when

you've reached an advanced stage of training, one or two " little "

things can go a very long way in being extremely helpful. The best

piece of advice I got from Check's writings was about trunk

stabilization during squats and overhead presses. No, it may not be

the way a powerlifter does it, but I'm not a powerlifter. I'm just

an old gal trying to save myself an injury that will keep me out of

the gym.

When I joined this list, Mel told me he not allow a bunch of flaming

and backbiting. Just the type of list I was really wanting! I like

to read people's opinions and especially those from " the trenches. "

It's interesting to compare them to what the research says. And

it's also interesting to hear about the ongoing research. A healthy

discussion of various methods and why someone likes or doesn't like

them is marvelous. It gives me something to think about and maybe

even go to the gym to try out an idea or two. So yeah, I'd love a

POLITE discussion of the merits and non-merits of Check's

ideas.
