Guest guest
Edema with PA Swelling of the ankles is almost certainly due to xanidip (a CCB) and eating more salt than your body can handle. Swelling is rare in PA. Did it start when you started xanidip or other CCB? Take your BP device with you. If weather is very hot and you sweat a lot or get diarrhea you may need less BP meds. What takes you to Egypt? I hope to see the pyramids. Hope to do that some day. Clarence E. Guest guest
What is your general health like - would your GP advise travel or not??? I'm on spiro. I travel lots and just returned from round trip UK/ Panama. No concerns or problems other than the usual stiff neck from rubbish airline seats!! > >  > Dear All > > I am scheduled to travel to Egypt in two weeks time. I will be there for a week and then return to Australia - travel time of 13-14 hours each way. Any suggestions on what to do or not do - should I even travel at all. My BP is fairly stable between 130-140 and 80-90. I am on 25 mg Inspra; 10 mg Amiloride; periodic Zanidip; high potassium diet + 4-6 potassium tablets a day depending; no added salt - probably about 1000 mg sodium a day. > > Any suggestions - is it dangerous to travel as i have a settled level of pitting edema - been there now for almost a year - > > Kwame > > > Stay connected to the people that matter most with a smarter inbox. Guest guest
General health is pretty okay - latest results all within normal range and endo says travel should not pose an issue although expects my legs and feet to swell. Suggested pressure stockings. Any experience with those from anybody. Have not tried them since PA diagnosis as not sure how well goes with High BP. My current BP levels 130-140/90 with a few falls to 125/128. Three or four spikes to around 150-160/100 but fell pretty rapidly after potassium food/supplements or inspra/amiloride. Have been advised also to take my BP monitor by Dr Grim and keep a close eye on BP. Any views on use of pressure stockings? ________________________________ From: catma1162 <beecathy@...> hyperaldosteronism Sent: Sunday, 29 March, 2009 7:33:31 PM Subject: Re: long distance travel - any dangers/tips What is your general health like - would your GP advise travel or not??? Guest guest
The advce that I was given was to get up and walk around every half hour and urinate often. I was told to get pressure stockings only if this did not work. I had no problems when traveling by plane. I had increased urgency to urinate when traveling by car. I experienced slight swelling but nothing major in both cases. BP did not rise significantly. Elevating feet above head upon arrival or at end of the day reduced swelling. ------------------------------------ > > > > > > Dear All > > > > I am scheduled to travel to Egypt in two weeks time. Guest guest
More around on the plane. I just flew to Nigeria and they had good instructions on the plane about exercises. Feet prob swell due to zanidip and eating more salt than your body can get rid of.
