Guest guest
Having heard Liam son last Tuesday we have just written the following We enjoyed hearing you speak at the Public Health Network meeting on Tuesday June 19th. We fully support your stance on working together to reduce inequalities in health; this has been a prime concern of the health visiting profession since its inception. We are very pleased that recent government documentation acknowledges the public health role of health visitors. However we were dismayed that you were unaware of the threat to the title and role of the health visitor in the new Nursing and Midwifery Council. We are concerned that health visiting will become subsumed within nursing without clear and separate recognition and representation on the council. The current government has already confirmed the important contribution of health visiting within the health service when declaring that it should remain a separate registerable qualification. We therefore ask for your support to: protect the public from incompetence and misconduct maintain standards of the health visiting profession by developing a statutory health visiting committee, as part of the new Council. recognise that health visiting is a profession in statute and needs regulating as such Maintain the current title of health visitor in the new nursing and midwifery council We are relying on your support in this matter and look forward to receiving a response.
