Guest guest
What meds are you on? What is your K running? What is your BP doing when you stand? What is your BP sitting? How high was it just before surgery? How much weight have you lost? The pulse should be slowing down by now. Guest guest
I am on no meds (only birthcontrol). My K was 4.1 on 2/24. My blood pressure is about the same sitting or standing. Between 114/60 and 109/67 before surgery it was 150/100. I have only lost 2 pounds, but that could be from being so sick after surgery. Re: Re: Orthostatic after adrenalectomy What meds are you on? Guest guest
I am not sick any more. I was talking about thowing up because of the anesthesia. Now my symptoms are:shortness of breath, tired all the time and not being able to return to my normal activities because of my heart rate. I have an appointment with my Endo in the morning and I was hoping that you could shed some light on why this is going on so long and what to do about it becasue I don't think she will. Guest guest
You are likely having a spell of hypoaldosteronism as your other adrenal begins to kick in. This is a good sign that the one size was doing most of the secretion. Your BP has fallen a lot and your baroreceptor control systems are trying to keep your pressure where it was by increasing the heart rate. This should reset after 1-3 weeks. I would eat lots of salt till you see your Endo. This also assumes there are no other reasons for rapid heart rate such as blood loss from the surgery. But was done thru a scope I assume and not likely. Trying checking your BP after your do a bit of exercise to see if it falls. I have pts step up and down on a stair 10 times and then check it while still standing. Support your arm you are measureing on on a firm surface with the cuff at heart level-about the level of the center of your chest while standing. Give us some feed back. Guest guest
1-3 weeks from now or from the surgery? Yes it was done by scope. I have not purchased a cuff- I have just been using the one at the store. Should I try it with that? Guest guest
unless you can lift the store one up I would get one at the store or see if you have a friend who has one. I recommend if you buy one you get the one u listen to with an attached stethoscope and follow directions and should be able to do it OK. These devices at CVS or Walgreen will be about $18. Dont recall if you need a large cuff. Depends on your upper arm circumference if greater than 13 inches around then u need a large cuff. I would think you need one anyway. Guest guest
Go to see Endo or GP and they should do seated, standing and post exercise BP to see if it is dropping a lot and if you feel dizzy with any of this. Do you ever experience dizziness on standing? Better from day of surgery I was talking about time line. On Mar 5, 2009, at 4:43 PM, sgalley1@... wrote: > 1-3 weeks from now or from the surgery? Guest guest
No my pulse has always been low. Her reasoning that it was not my adrenal gland is that my cortisol is normal. And she said something about iodine and my thyroid. So I am confused what else could it be? My blood pressure is the same sitting and standing (about 118/65) and goes up to 125/70 with exercise.  Re: Re: Orthostatic after adrenalectomy Guess your Endo has not followed many Conn's post op Was pulse high b4 surg? If not then Not thyroid No vessels were reconnected during this surgery. Would not worry about that. Tiped sad Send form mi iPhone ;-) May your pressure be low! Guest guest
Again she does not understand the problem of isolated hypoaldo after ADX for Conn's as cortisol Will be normal. The endocrine physiology is 1. The tumor secretes aldo causing salt retention which suppresses the renin And AII in blood and aldo production By rest of gland and contralateral gland. When the tumor Is Removed aldo drops To very low values till remaining gland kicks In. Re-read my article and trust u took It to her to update her Cegrimmd Tiped sad Send form mi iPhone ;-) May your pressure be low! Guest guest
I have an article in the files " evolution of primary aldo " that u should read and take to all your Drs The rapid heart rate is always 120? Or does it go up and down? How many has your surgeon Followed? If it is due to hypoaldo it should be getting better. When u had AVS DID u have any pain after? Guest guest
If you have been seen by your surgeon and Endo and reg Dr and they agree I would wait a couple of weeks. It is very unusual to have a completely nomral BP for years and then suddenly develop high blood pressure due to Conn's. As you will note in my article BP increases perhaps years before low K develops. Before your high blood pressure was discovered 9 months ago when was the last time before that that your BP had been measured? Guest guest
My surgeon doesn't know what to think- he has never seen it before and my Endo has no idea what is going on (she was grasping at staws thinking it was my thyroid). Neither of them has told me to give it time. Before my high BP was discovered, I had a normal reading 4 months before.  Re: Re: Orthostatic after adrenalectomy If you have been seen by your surgeon and Endo and reg Dr and they  agree I would wait a couple of weeks. Guest guest
This assumes of course that BP was measured correctly before it was finally found to be high. Very interesting. How low did your K get before the Dx was made. Guest guest
My lowest K was 3.1. This morning I took my pulse before I got out of bed and it was 85. I am still having to get up in the night to go to the bathroom. Is that normal? Also I never lost the 4-6 pounds after surgery only 2. Guest guest
I am up four to five times a night. I also have an insatiable thirst on some days - not always. This has improved since I've been on Spironolactone, but the fequency of waking throughout the night has increased. I take my whole dose 100mg first thing in the morning, which has helped somewhat. I also take colcalciferol for a vitamin D defficiency, which has helped. Amazingly, on the day I take that tablet, I feel perfect, as though nothing's wrong with me. No muscle pain, I sleep well, etc. I hope your endo gets some good info soon for your sake. Sue ________________________________ From: " sgalley1@... Guest guest
It is interesting that you are talking about Vitamin D deficiency. My most recent blood test, I asked my doctor to test me for vitamin D deficiency. It turned out I had almost zero vitamin D in my body. D2 was <2 and D3 was<4. Of course with that now I have Osteopenia as well. He told me to take 1000 mgs of over the counter Vitamin D. Is this enough? Considering I live in Sunny California, I am wondering if this could be a side effect of Spironolactone, since I've been taking it over 3 years now. Has anyone else on Spiro been tested their vitamin D?
