Guest guest
I'm in the middle of my 4th week and I feel like I've hit a wall! I've had a cold, so that doesn't help. I thought I read somewhere that in weeks 3-4, it is normal to feel more fatigued than usual and as long as you keep up the pace, it will pass. Is this true? I keep reading Skwigg's 4th Week Freak Out because I was doing just that, freaking out! I'm not sure I would if I weren't so tired. I've been following the program faithfully, eating clean and all 6 meals, exercising in the morning, etc., etc. I'm finding it hard to drag my ass out of bed, and didn't know if it was due to my cold or not. Guest guest
AmyC - I think a cold will do that to everyone. If I go too long without getting my 8hrs of sleep at night then I always inevitably will get a cold. Are you going to bed early enough to actually get the sleep that you need? Maybe try going to bed 1/2 hr earlier... I know I have to be in bed by 9pm at the latest in order to get up at 5am to do my workouts. I'm not a guru, but that's my 2 cents worth. in WI 4th Week energy slump. Guest guest
How much sleep are you getting? It's normal to need an hour or two more when you're training hard, yet a lot of people get less on BFL because they're getting up early to go to the gym. You may also need to cut yourself a little slack if you've been sick. That means you'll need even MORE sleep and your intensity may be a little off until you're feeling better. Try to get in bed earlier and catch a nap whenever possible. Here's some more info that I sent someone: Sleep is critical because it's when the most growth and repair takes place. If you train your guts out but skimp on sleep, your results will be severely compromised. The more intense your training, the more important sleep becomes. Here's an excerpt from a CNN story on sleep: " Part of sleep's effect lies in hormones. During deep sleep, the production of growth hormone is at its peak. Growth hormone speeds the absorption of nutrients and amino acids into your cells and aids the healing of tissues throughout your body. The hormone also stimulates your bone marrow, where your immune system cells are born. Guest guest
Thanks guys. I think sleep may be the key. I'm going to bed in 1/2 hour (9:45) and I normally get to bed at that time. But since DH has been out of town, I think my bedtime has gotten later and my quality of sleep has gone down. I have a 3yo & a 5yo, so they definately interfere a bit (they've had colds too). The past 3 days I have been getting in a 1.5-2 hour nap with the kiddies, so my body needs it. I'll make sure I go to bed earlier this weekend and see if that makes a difference. Good call!
