Guest guest
... hon ... it was supposed to be funny. Think about it ... (How many calories do I burn throwing up my hands and shaking my head?) Eury Re: Negative Calories What exactly is celery supposed to help you do? By negative cals I believe that means that it takes more calories to cew and digest celery then there are calories in the celery itself. This does not mean that if you eat celery it will cancel out the calories of other foods you have eaten.
Guest guest
PS ... you may also laugh at the fact that I just realized my spell-checker is mal-functioning. Eury with egg on her face ... fat free and hard boiled, of course.
Guest guest
Well, dang it all. Somebody beat me to the punch and set themselves up to sell e-books to the masses. *sigh* (LOL) It seems there's a lot of information on the web that isn't backed by hard science, and negative calories per se is one. It's a case of taking a little bit of truth, and interpreting it to mean something that really isn't entirely true. For example -- if you were to stick a banana in your ear, and limit your calories to 1,000 while exercising, you'd probably lose weight (at least until your metabolism slowed down) but it wouldn't be the banana that caused the weight loss. Yet some lovely entrepreneur could probably make a ton of cash selling the great " Banana in the Ear Diet Plan! " on the web, and that's no joke. OR maybe do BFL wearing pink shorts and call it the Pink Shorts Diet? (LOL) I'm not a biochemist, and I don't play one on TV, but it's not rocket science to figure out that water-rich and fiber-rich foods (like celery, leafy greens, low glycemic index fruits, etc.) take up more room in the stomach and lead to a feeling of fullness with fewer calories going in than calorie dense or empty calorie foods like cake, ice cream, candy, pastry, pie, egg nog, etc. Yet so many diet books have been written on this concept it's unreal. Probably the two " best " (in my opinion) of this particular take are Eat More Weigh Less and Volumetrics. There was a really in-depth book written by a couple of scientists who were interested in life extension back around the late 60's early 70's that gave lots of ways to increase calorie burn on a daily basis -- they included things like wearing loose clothing with wide necklines to allow more body heat to escape, and drinking all your water as ice cold as you could manage, and of course, increasing your consumption of water-dense foods being sure to chill them, again to increase the calories burned by having to warm the foods/water to body temperature. I did it all ... nearly froze my fanny off walking outdoors without a jacket. Also In the 60's there was a soup touted by Weight Watchers lovingly called " suicide soup " based on this very " negative calorie " idea ... it was a vegetable soup that was so low in calories to volume, that it was said you could starve to death eating it. I don't know about that, but it was delicious as I recall. I am surprised that nobody has come up with the Rabbit Diet using rabbit meat as the main protein source since it's so danged low in fat and high in clean protein that it makes chicken look really bad in comparison. Come to think of it, and I'm not joking here although it may sound as if I am what with me being cheeky and all, I did read about people who starved to death eating wild rabbit because it was so low in fat and calories ... but maybe it was because they just didn't catch enough of them. As I looked over the Negative Calorie Diet website, I couldn't help but think of PT Barnum saying there's a customer born every minute. Now if y'all will excuse me, I think I may have to write that rabbit diet book and see how many customers I can find. If I find enough, maybe I can afford a stomach staple AND liposuction! LOL (that part was intended as a joke.) Eury Re: Negative Calories There is actually a negative calorie diet. I just found it. In case you're interested. http://www.negativecaloriediet.com/?hop=flightwave
