Guest guest
Calling all PhD.s ! Today the Department of Health finally advertised their first Public Health Career Scientist Awards in the Guardian education section page 17 (the NHS R & D website is supposed to have the details from 3/11/00). Good luck, all would-be Academic HVs or SNs. P.S. Senate members at King's, City or UCL might make good mentors for these career scientists, if you are thinking of applying for this new Award. Guest guest
Dear Ros and all other members in all places: Some important news about R & D: HEFCE have given Dr. Anne-Marie Rafferty, director of the RCN's Centre for Policy in Nursing Research, the national tender to scope research in Nursing and the Allied Health Professions over the next three months (gasp) with the intention of building up the research capacity of nursing. The scoping will involve the private sector, NHS and local authorities as well as University departments of nursing or health sciences. Anne-Marie and her deputy Dr. Traynor RHV were asking on Tuesday for help from all quarters in planning this historic scoping exercise. The RCN CPNR is based at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Keppel Street, London WC1E 7HT. Some news for Senate members interested in Mental Health research: Gale at the Government-sponsored charity Mentality is asking nationally for evidence-based examples of good practice in Mental Health Promotion projects. Sheelah Seeley and all other members in all places with who with to inform the Government's standard 1 of its National Service Framework promoting mental health, you can contact Liz at elizabeth.gale@... Liz is especially sympatico to projects led by school nurses and health visitors ! Best wishes, Woody. > Dear Woody, > > Re. your ps. don't forget there are Senate members at other > institutions!! > > Ros
Guest guest
Dear Woody and all thanks for this information . Is it ok if I copy it and post it on an embryonic egroup for primarycare nursing research ? This is a new group which I would like to invite interested members of SENATE to join . It follows a fringe meeting at the last RCN Nursing Research Conference where the twenty odd people attending felt there should be some way of networking to increase the presence of nurses, midwives and HVs in primary care research. By the end of the month we will have a web page on the RCN research co-ordinating centre page but it (and the egroup) is not exclusively for RCN members. So you can find this egroup by searching the egroups pages for PrimaryCareNursingResearchNetwork or email it . Looking forward to the debate and meeting people there. Guest guest
Good luck Vari ! Three or four years ago in London Ann McMahon of the RCN organised a workshop on nurse researchers in primary care, which I facilitated. Ann** must have the papers for that meeting still, in case it would be helpful. I remember Prof.s Alison Kitson and Bill Lemmer in particular had some useful things to say. The East London primary care network ELENoR also has a local practice nurse research network, based at Queen & Westfield College, who might be very interested in your national RCN initiative (said the practice nurse lecturer over my shoulder as I began this email... ) Woody. ** A.M. is teaching in Manchester University now and also has an electronic address via the RCN research website. > > > Dear Woody, > > > > > > Re. your ps. don't forget there are Senate members at other > > > institutions!! > > > > > > Ros

Guest guest
Dear , Could I please have some fliers (50?) sent to: Dr. W. Caan, Room 2.12, International Centre for Health and Society, University College London, 1 - 19 Torrington Place, London WC1E 6BT. Thanks a lot - there is interest both within the college and at my health authority. Do you think that we can get a free notice about the forthcoming event in the weeklies (Nursing Standard & Nursing Times) ? Meanwhile, on Friday I will make enquiries back at UCL about taping the debate, but I cannot promise anything yet. If Jane is chairing I thought I might make some notes, but I am too hard of hearing for a full record of events: it would be more an impressionistic sketch of the debate. Are any keen photographers coming, as I am sure a photo record would be welcome in the year 2100 ! Best wishes, Woody. > > > > Dear Woody, > > > > > > > > Re. your ps. don't forget there are Senate members at other > > > > institutions!! > > > > > > > > Ros > > > > > > > > > > > >
