Guest guest
Sounds like a premature atrial contraction. Was pulse irregular at the same time. Were the soft ones followed by a booming one? This may happen when the ventricle does not empty good after a PAC or even a PVC and then it fills excessively, stretches a lot and this stretch (Starling's Law) results in a strong and vigorous contraction. Guyton may explain it better. On Apr 29, 2008, at 12:08 AM, Valarie wrote: > I had a vigorous massage Thursday. Prior to that, I was feeling > pretty good and even popping a few jokes. Guest guest
Sorry for taking all day to respond. Daughter born on Conn's birthday had knee surgery and I've been with her all day. My pulse at the time was regular but a little high (90). Yes, the soft beats were followed by a booming one. My heart has pounded hard like that before when I ate salt. Dr. Grim, is this PA damage? " Were the soft ones followed by a booming one? This may happen when the ventricle does not empty good after a PAC or even a PVC and then it fills excessively, stretches a lot and this stretch (Starling's Law) results in a strong and vigorous contraction. " I will have to read Guyton. Right now, I'm just a little freaked out about everything. (Remember, you confirmed that " freaked out " is a medical term.) Overall, I guess I'm slowly improving. The BB has calmed my heart. I was sitting in recovery with daughter today, feeling pretty okay and then a sweat came. I got horribly weak, developed the internal tremor, and then got the anxiety. I believe my heart stayed even and without skips. We left not too long after and I slept all the way home. It seems the only way I can sleep is in a moving car. Just like a baby. Early morning sweats continue. I still get up too often to urinate. I got an hypnosis tape and play that when the sweats start and have gotten a bit more sleep that way. It kinda' subdues the anxiety for a bit. Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of Clarence Grim Sounds like a premature atrial contraction. Guest guest
Can you find a some thing to collect it in to estimate the volume. Guest guest
I collected as follows: 10 p.m. - 10 a.m. - 1400 ml (night) 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. - 800 ml (day) I think I've fixed myself for right now. For three days, I've been taking 25 mg of Elavil at 7 p.m., 5 mg Ambien at 9 p.m. and go to bed about 10:30 p.m. I wake up to urinate usually at around midnight, 2 a.m., 4 a.m., 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. For the last two nights, I've been able to go back to sleep until the 4 a.m. wake up which has more sweats. I've been taking 1 mg Ativan at 4 a.m. and then can sometimes sleep until 6 a.m. At 6 a.m., I play an hypnosis CD and can go back to sleep until about 8 a.m. I've been horribly sleep deprived so probably will not sleep as much when I catch up. Today, I felt almost human. I am more calm. Sleep matters. My BP has been averaging 126/76/62. The Toprol XL has definitely decreased my pulse and has stopped the arrhythmia. The 150 mg spiro has decreased BP but not the night sweats and nocturia. I've lost 6.7 lbs since beginning spiro on 3/21/08 (1.12 lb/week). I'm not eating less (maybe even more) but I'm keeping K at about 3,000 and Na at about 675, plus my K test = 4.8 now as opposed to 3.7 before. My poor doc. I asked her a week ago to schedule me at Mayo. Today I called to see about it. She finally called and said she hadn't gotten to it but would do so promptly on Monday. She told me to call her at noon on Monday if I didn't hear from her first. I think she has ADD. Then she muttered something about getting me on something different for my BP. I don't think she has a clue. She wanted to know what the shrink said. He said to continue to treat symptoms until the main problem is brought under control. I think she was disappointed that he didn't just determine me crazy. She uttered something about not seeing anyone with PA so anxious before. I told her about our board posts about anxiety. What drugs would be acceptable while off spiro? I assume the Toprol is okay but what else? I don't trust ADD endo too much. Wonder if the volume you pass is greatest when you wake up with the sweats? Bladder may be distended more. I BELIEVE THE VOLUME IS GREATLY INCREASED WHILE HAVING SWEATS. MY ENTIRE INTENTION IN GOING TO MAYO IS TO HAVE AVS BECAUSE I DON'T TRUST ANYONE AROUND HERE TO DO IT. IF AN ADENOMA CAN BE LOCALIZED, I WANT IT OUT. I HAVE THOUGHT LONG AND HARD ABOUT THIS. Guest guest
I'm just not sure. I have the covers off and on all night. I often wake up cold and have to re-cover only to then have to remove them again. I'm never awake enough in the night to take BP (that would destroy the bit of sleep I get anyway). When I am having sweats during the day, my BP used to go up by 10 - 15 pts but the last few days, it has not. The sweats overall are less frequent and less intense so believe they are related to spiro blocking. The last few days, my BP as barely wavered from 125/75 throughout each day. Right now, I simply can't function without Ambien. It seems that Elavil has leveled out the anxiety a bit too. At some point, I want off all this stuff but right now, I'm not interested in being brave. My vision went fuzzy about a week ago and has not improved. It was a sudden change and came on three days after I started Toprol. Dave, if you are reading, we're pulling for you. Recommend you try less sleeping meds. What I am suggesting is that Ambien makes it more difficult for your brain to get the signal that you bladder is full. When it over fills it causes a SNS discharge that keeps trying to wake you up and when it finally jacks up the SNS enough to wake you up you are sweating and have a rapid heart rate and BP is likely up. > > > Right now, I simply can't function without Ambien. Guest guest
Dr. Grim, I know you're trying to help, but I just can't do that right now. I am so desperate for sleep. Sometimes, Ambien will give me four hours of knocked-out sleep. I can't give that up right now. Shrink tried me on longer-acting sleep meds (Lunesta and Ambien CR). I still woke up in four hours and then felt hung over several hours after I got up. The sweats during the day still are not explained. They come on randomly, usually when I get a little perplexed or upset; sometimes when I move around. I have very low tolerance for anything. At least, with the routine I have now, I can sleep 8 or 9 hours, albeit broken sleep. That is better than what I've been doing since September. My anxiety level is considerably lessened since I figured out how to get through 8 or 9 hours of sleep. Hell no, she didn't tell me that Toprol would hurt my vision. I trust it is temporary? Does Zebeta do that too? I need the BB. Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of Clarence Grim Recommend you try less sleeping meds. Guest guest
Yes BB interfere with the beta impulses to the muscles that change your lens thickness so reading can be a problem. May get better with time. On May 3, 2008, at 9:22 PM, val1198 wrote: > > Close up vision is blurry but can read with drugstore glasses. Guest guest
We did. I measured from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and then to 10 a.m. I put out 1,400 cc during the night and 800 during the day. That was on enough spiro (150) to bring my BP into the 120's. That was about a month ago. The nocturia never did end but did let up a bit. I've been off spiro for three days and BP is staying down. I'm avoiding all salt possible. Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of Clarence Grim dont know if we finished this one. Guest guest
You have the classic day night reversal of urine volume seen in PA and many HTN. Would suggest everyone on the list do this so we can collect the data. So here is how. When you get up to stay up in the am, pee and discard this urine. Record the time. Collect all urine in a jug until you get ready to go to bed and pee just before you go to hed. Record the volume and time. Place the jug on the toilet so when you get up at night to pee you will not forget it. Pee every drop into the jug during the night until you get up to stay up. Record the last time. So we have 2 urine volumes. You can measure the volume in cups or cc better in ccs. Awake urine volume: timed from yesterday when you got up until you went to bed. Sleep urine volume: timed from when you went to bed till when you got up on the urine collection day. Then we need an excel spead sheet that will convert the following Awake urine volume divided by time of collection in hours = cc/hr. Sleep urine volumen divided by the time of collection = cc/hr. We will need to see if the Day/night urine volume or the one adjusted by hours of each as well are the best. We will need someone to do an excel speadsheet to do this and then put it in the files. Then we can keep a running tabulation of how many have this day night reverse. Again normal folks put out more urine during the day than the night. Guest guest
I will make a data file so that all can add their information. An Excel spreadsheet can only be updated by the moderators or the one who originally created it. I didn't do mine for awake and asleep hours. I did mine by 12 hour periods so I guess I'll have to do it again. ugh! Once BP is good on spiro, shouldn't the other symptoms of PA go away? Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of Clarence Grim You have the classic day night reversal of urine volume seen in PA and many HTN.
