Part of this goal is realized through a series of workshops sponsored by I-CARE which provide access to experts in autism-related fields in order to assist with continuing the education of parents and professionals. Elimination of Problem Behaviors through Excellent Teaching Proceduresconducted by Tamara Kasper, BCaBA/SLPParents and therapists are often faced with difficult cases in which valuable therapy time is spent addressing challenging behaviors such as avoidance, aggression or self-stimulation. Participants in this workshop will learn strategies from the field of Applied Behavior Analysis which are used to analyze behavior and determine how problem behaviors develop during intensive teaching and daily activities. Improved understanding of the "function" that the behavior serves provides guidance and for the selection of appropriate use of "extinction" for problem behavior and systematic methods for teaching replacement behaviors will be discussed.
