Guest guest
Sounds like a great workout week. Have you been to the doctor about the headaches or is it just a seasonal thing? If you get them frequently it may help to make a journal of when including things you ate, exercise, etc. I know this has helped a lot of people. I find mine are brought on by stress (like when my children think that cleaning their room is dumping all their toys on the floor and throwing them around lol) or hormones. What works best for me is a bit of physical activity followed by a gentle yoga session before the headache turns into a HEADACHE. During a HEADACHE I take a warm bath and go to sleep if possible and if not take an ibuprofen and some caffeine and do my best. I stopped going to the gm because of machine hog and flirts (I was much younger and skinnier then –I’m one of those women blessed with an hourglass figure and men at gyms seem to think I am a brainless clueless aerobic bunny – I like the weight machines at the gym) – great job continuing with it despite aggravations. I enjoy working out at home now but there are times I wish I still went to the gym. Congrats on the great workouts. (who really needs to start doing more than biking 3 kids around, housework and yoga) From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Carl Cope Sent: Tuesday, June 27, 2006 11:37 PM Subject: Carl's weekend workouts and all... OK, I just got back from the eye doctor (clean bill of health), and I have an hour before I head off to a trivia group meeting, so I'll bring everyone up to speed. Friday -- At the gym, I breezed through a set of lower body machines, did the elliptical trainer (64 minutes, 828 calories burned), and the stationary bike (15 minutes for 79 calories). Saturday -- passed up going to the gym b/c I figured the things I was going to do at the gym, I could do at home today (intervals/ab work). Well, after work, I just crashed, even fought off a bit of a headache, but recovered in time for a Saturday night out of NTN thrills and " excitement. " Sunday -- headache is worse (I don't get hangovers that often; this wasn't one of them); I was lousy for most of the day. I tried all kinds of medication: aspirin, ibuprofen, sinus medication -- which was what I thought the problem was -- even migraine stuff. The weather here has been yucky -- mostly cloudy, mostly rainy with an occasional t-storm. Humid as all get out! On Monday, I would turn on a fan for the first time since I moved in in November. It's pretty cool right now at my place -- lots of shade, windows barely open. Anyway, I beat the headache late that night, and treated myself to grocery shopping plus a trip to the gym. 2 sessions of the bike, and 2 of the E.T.. Totals: 30 minutes on the bike for 179 calories burned; 63 minutes of the Elliptical Trainer for 861 calories. I also did another set of lower body machines. I find that: 1) I do better when I start with the bike, and 2) I need to increase my weights on the machines. I'm breezing through them too easily. Crunching all the numbers, I think I will increase the overall total by 1/6th. I'll map something out and start this for July 1st (that's Saturday already!!). Monday -- more headaches. I don't know why I'm getting them. I decided I didn't want to lie around the house, so I put on my contact lenses (in a record 6 minutes!!) and did intervals at home. Did 26:00 of jogging non-stop on the treadmill, which surprised me. I didn't think I could go that long in one shot. Felt great! I did an additional 12 minutes on the treadmill, all at about 3.9 mph. Also put in an interval of 12 1/2 minutes on the step, while watching " Balanced Fitness Workout " for review. Completed the session with 225 crunches on my Crunch Force gizmo. That's what I did at home... ....went to the gym for another 48 minutes on the E.T., for 621 calories, and I did another set of ab crunches on the gizmo at the gym. Tuesday -- At ye olde Fitness Center, I did 64 minutes on the E.T., for 848 calories. Started with the bike; 15 minutes for 76 calories. Tried to complete the lower body series, but machine hogs (don't you hate them!!) prevented that. I spent my time memorizing the difference between hip abduction and adduction. Monday/Tuesday was the first day since last Wednesday that I had the contacts in. I had some redness in my eye last week. Looked bad, but didn't feel bad. Thanks to and Tonya for advice on getting them in. Mucho appreciado!! Eye doctor ordered a year's supply, and I can pick them up Friday. I've been green-lighted for vacation at the night job July 20th plus the weekend that goes with it. Now, I have something to plan for!! The auction company takes a week off so the family can visit their " I'm such a world traveler/better than you " daughter. Fortunately, the rest of the family is cool, and the daughter doesn't make many appearances due to her job travels around the world. Guest guest
I've determined them to be sinus headaches, brought on by any change in the weather. They seem to affect the sinus areas, and, usually I get rid of them, the way you get rid of HEADACHES (medicine followed by a hot caffeine blast). Sometimes I wonder if it's the way I sleep; the way I'm aligned (on the couch). I wonder if something needs adjusting. Aerobics and other fitness bunnies intimidate me. There was a lady being trained, oh, I'd say early 30's, vaguely looked like our own Carolyn. I really wanted to ask the trainer (who'd trained me a while back and still converses) if the lady was single. She struck me (wild guess here) as someone who was going to the gym to improve herself and perhaps increase her chances in the outside world. She didn't have a ring on, but who'd risk losing a wedding ring at the gym? (I bet we'll hear stories about this!) Thanks for the advice! --Carl (who would like to apply the principles from the movie "Perfect" { Lee Curtis/ Travolta} in an old-fashioned way) ----- Original Message ----- From: Sprague Sounds like a great workout week.
